We are currently seeking a talented and passionate Environmental Scientist to join our team and investigate the relationship between sustainable resource utilization within a healthcare system and its impact on patient health and reducing the burden of disease for the broader community.

    Position Overview: As a Scientist and a principal investigator, you will play a pivotal leadership role in our organization's mission to promote sustainable healthcare practices, and quantify and mitigate environmental impact. You will independently develop and lead innovative scientific research initiatives to analyze and evaluate the effects of sustainable resource use on hospital operations, patient health outcomes and the community's overall well-being. These include life cycle analysis, economic impact, health outcomes research and other related topics. You will serve as the primary scientific faculty member and research leader for the Office of Sustainability, guiding the strategic direction of research in this area. You will serve as scientific lead for Houston Methodist collaborating with internal principal investigators and academic physicians connecting the dots between multiple disciplines, concurrent research, and our Center for Health Science & Data Analytics. Additionally, this position will serve as scientific liaison for the Center for Health & Nature, a joint initiative between Houston Methodist, Texas A&M and Texan by Nature; the City of Houston; State of Texas; and federal institutions.

    • Coordinates and provides technical direction to the work activities of research staff engaged in projects.

    SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.

    • Establishes procedures to be applied for projects.

    • Develops and publishes in high impact journals.

    • Defines problems and possible solutions as dictated by the research project.

    • Analyzes data and interprets data.

    • Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.

    FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Administers funds provided by the specific grant(s).

    • Develops and manages independent grant portfolio.

    • Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed.

    GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Reviews scientific literature.

    • Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis.
