The Environmental Inspector will oversee contractor implementation of environmental controls and mitigation measures through the performance of daily field inspections, initiate corrective actions where appropriate, and ensure compliance with construction standards and specific contract documents.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Oversee contractor implementation of environmental controls and mitigation measures through the performance of daily field inspections

    • Initiate corrective action where appropriate when environmental controls are not in compliance

    • Assure environmental compliance with site specific contract documents

    • Prepare inspection reports

    • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders on codes and regulations.

    • Document violations and complaints; perform follow up for compliance

    • Read and interpret construction plans.

    • Communicate daily with contractors, engineers, field workers and other State and Federal agencies.

    • Possesses skill sets involving business acumen, public speaking, negotiating skills, communications skills, writing skills, and proposing engineering changes.

    • Performs tasks, including training programs, using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

    • Ensure established processes are being followed.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older.

    • Must have the ability to prepare effective written documents and presentations for various levels of management.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, or equivalent programs.

    • Possesses good communication and time management skills.

    • Possesses good documentation ability.

    • Focuses on attention to detail.

    • Works effectively as a team member.

    • Self-motivated, self-initiated, and able to make decisions and supervise/self-manage.

    • Good planning and organizational skills.

    • Experience with engineering and/or construction

    • Demonstrates leadership skills.

    • Competent in situation analysis and problem-solving.

    • Can read and correctly interpret engineering drawings developed by architects and Engineering Firms.

    • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks at one time.

    • Some knowledge of the corporate and departmental organizational structure.

    Education & Experience

    • Preferred: 4-year degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology or related degree.

    • Preferred: Min 2 years of experience in environmental compliance inspections.

    • Preferred: Experience in Utility Construction

    • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

    Pre-Screen

    • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

    License & Certifications:

    • Valid Driver's License Required.

    • Ability to become Certified Erosion, Sediment and Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI) within one year of employment

    Physical Requirements:

    • RARE (less than 10%): stooping, kneeling, squatting, body-twisting, crawling, climbing poles, color vision, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs.

    • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): sitting, manual dexterity, climbing on/off a truck, gripping, reaching, range of motion, carrying, balancing, lifting up to 50 lbs.

    • FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, walking, sense of touch, seeing distant, hearing-speech range, depth perception.

    • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): seeing, speaking clearly.

    Safety

    Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

    • Works in all temperatures and weather

    • May work around excessive noise from machines, chain saw, wood chippers, and other equipment with hearing protection

    • May be exposed to nature i.e., irritating plants and biting or stinging insects, and dust

    • May work on unlevel terrain

    • May be exposed to dogs and other animals
