  • Job Description

    The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and programs regarding occupational safety and environmental compliance topics for the University of Hartford campus.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Serve as lead subject matter expert on EHS topics

    • Advise and consult on compliance matters pertaining to EHS topics and regulations

    • Serve as primary liaison to EHS regulators (e.g. OSHA, EPA, state and local agencies), respond to compliance inspections and any potential enforcement actions

    • Develop and maintain EHS programs affecting University of Hartford including, but not limited, to Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Personal Protective Equipment, Injury and Illness Prevention, Chemical Hygiene, Industrial Hygiene, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), Aboveground Storage Tanks, Underground Storage Tanks, Air Quality Permits, Emergency Preparedness and Community Right-to-Know, Regulated Waste Management, Refrigerant Management, etc.

    • Conduct periodic reviews of EHS programs to assure compliance with applicable requirements

    • Direct permitting and compliance processes as needed, maintain and file all relevant EHS reporting when required

    • Establish and maintain a document retention program for relevant recordkeeping requirements and training given on various EHS topics

    • Establish tracking program to identify recurring incidents

    • Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for hazardous activities and ensure formal controls are in place

    • Direct all waste disposal activities and vendors for household and various regulated waste types (hazardous, universal and used oil)

    • Develop an emergency response strategy for EHS campus emergencies

    • Remain current on EHS topics and new regulatory requirements

    • Perform other duties as requested

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in implementing EHS programs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and laws and development of training programs.

    • Ability to interpret laws and regulations for University of HartfordEHS compliance obligations

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience in preparing EHS program regulatory agency reporting packages

    • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in EHS programmatic and topic areas

    • Developed leadership and organization skills
