    About the Role

    You'll directly manage a total of 4-6 staff, including site engineers and gas operations managers with varying degrees of experience in the environmental and solid waste industry. The ideal candidate will possess superior problem solving and management skills that will be applied to a diverse portfolio of technical projects. Your team is directly responsible for engineering, construction, permitting and gas system operation and maintenance at eight (8) solid waste disposal facilities across Minnesota, North Dakota, and Iowa. You'll be continually challenged to use your knowledge and skills to advance WM's status as the leader, and innovator, in providing comprehensive waste management services to a variety of customers.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

    • Organizes and schedules all necessary engineering and gas collection O&M resources required to accomplish activities.

    • Monitors department work processes, procedures and expenses, and establishes programs which drive team performance toward departmental and organizational goals.

    • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.

    • Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.

    • Submits reasonable budget information and analyzes data versus year-to-date data and prior year budget.

    • Manages departmental projects as needed.

    • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

    • Develops and tests components, equipment, and systems applying principles and techniques of all fields of engineering.

    • Develop and execute strategic growth plans for WM assets including but not limited to landfill expansions and other facility improvements.

    • Collaborate cross functionally with operations and area business leadership to improve and maintain operating efficiencies, environmental compliance and safety.

    • Functions as a working team member, and provides technical and administrative direction to other engineering staff.

    • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.

    • Ensures that department project goals are met within the stated guidelines and requirements.

    What does it take to be an Engineering Manager?

    Below are the minimum and preferred requirements to be a fit for this role.

    • Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or equivalent experience, in Engineering or similar area of study; or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 10 years of relevant work experience.

    • Experience: Seven years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement) with Solid Waste, Civil or Environmental Engineering or Construction Management.

    Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Competencies

    • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

    • In-depth knowledge of landfill design and permitting

    • Familiarity with HyrdoCAD and AutoCAD

    • Strong project management skills with ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
