    The Role

    Power & Control Systems is directly responsible for nuclear power systems for the reactor plant on NIMITZ Class aircraft carriers, which involve coolant motor generator, 4160V coolant pumping power system, motor controllers, pressurizer heater system, and lighting and power distribution in the reactor plant. The individual will be the liaison with vendors, Ship's Force, NAVSEA, and public shipyards to address operational problems, component related troubleshooting, as well as new component and system designs concepts. Some travel and shipboard work. This position will have continual work in a team environment.

    Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

    Must Have

    Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

    Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

    Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

    Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

    Nice to Have

    Experience in design modifications, operations, and troubleshooting of Nimitz Class power systems, motor driven generator sets, and voltage regulators. Direct experience with 4160V high voltage switchboards, electrical distribution systems, electric motors, motor controllers, and safeguard systems is a plus. Experience developing new designs, testing/qualifying new components, and a strong technical writing ability is also highly desired. Prior defined leadership roles and leadership positions in engineering is a plus. Project management experience with large-scale, complex systems. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution.

    Demonstrated ability to lead and work on a team with comprehensive knowledge of engineering design processes for new designs from inception through completion for complicated job assignments using project management skills. Able and willing to train/mentor junior engineers.
