    BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Counsel, Employment and Compliance position reports to SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary within the Legal department with a dotted line to the SVP, Chief People Officer. This attorney's responsibilities include providing advice and counsel to various functions across the organization, including MSC's Human Resources department, with a particular emphasis on employment and workplace issues. Although this role will have a focus on employment law, the attorney's areas of responsibility will also include other general corporate legal issues that may be assigned from time to time.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide advice and counsel regarding employment and workplace issues.

    • Manage claims and charges relating to employment and workplace issues, including acting as the primary liaison with outside counsel when needed.

    • Conduct, participate in, or provide legal advice regarding internal investigations.

    • Provide advice, counsel, and participate in and/or lead projects regarding compliance with various U.S. federal, state, and local employment and privacy laws (e.g., Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, FCRA, ADEA/OWBPA, OFCCP regulations, workers' compensation).

    • Research and analyze various legal issues and render opinions to management.

    • Review and draft organizational policies/procedures and provide counsel on application of these policies/procedures.

    • Draft employment agreements and other employment-related documents.

    • Collaborates with the staffing team and hiring managers to ensure an equitable, compliant, and consistent hiring process.

    • Partner with HR business partners to encourage positive associate relations.

    • Assist with other corporate legal matters as needed, including mergers and acquisitions, diversity/equity/inclusion matters.

    • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.

    • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    What You Need:

    • J.D. Degree required.

    • Minimum of 5 years post-JD work experience as an employment law attorney required.

    • Must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area.

    • Must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state.

    • Must be able to efficiently prioritize competing demands from many in-house clients.

    Bonus Points If You Have:

    • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills required.

    • Effective client-counseling skills, plus strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities required.

    Other Requirements:

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

    • Experience working with federal government contractor clients strongly preferred.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel preferred.

    This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information ("ITAR") and/or Controlled Unclassified Information ("CUI") - if needed for specific orgs/roles.

    Compensation starting at $109340 - $171820 depending on experience.

    The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
