    Summary

    The role of the Supervisor carries a significant responsibility. The Supervisor will serve as a liaison between Norwalk Hospital EMS and the community emergency responders while on duty. The Supervisor will also directly oversee the the daily operations of the service and will be responsible for managing on duty EMS employees and participating with the Director in the annual review process.

    Responsibilities

    1. Schedules staff and directs crew and vehicle assignments Criteria A: Assigns staff daily to crews to assure completion of care daily Schedules staff and directs crew and vehicle assignments Criteria B: Assigns crews to work in the ED in between calls Schedules staff and directs crew and vehicle assignments Criteria C: identifies open shifts and works to fill them, limiting overtime Schedules staff and directs crew and vehicle assignments Criteria D: If assigned, develops EMS assignments monthly in the scheduling software

    2. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria A: Maintains less than 2 minute activation time when ambulance is available. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria B: Evaluates scene safety, proceeds appropriately. Always follows universal precautions Clinical- Patient Care Criteria C: Brings to patient side all equipment required, per policy Clinical- Patient Care Criteria D: Brings all patient equipment (per P&P) with patient (on transport ambulance) on Paramedic interecepts

    3. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria A: As appropriate for patient condition/complaint, performs a thorough and timely history and physical exam. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria B: Develops an accurate working diagnosis. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria C: Develops a treatment plan per service guidelines and/or medical direction, implements care plan, explains same to patient/family, monitors and documents results. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria D: Provides patient care in the Department in consultation with the Emergency Physician and Charge Nurse.

    4. Decision Support Criteria A: Works with Norwalk Combined Dispatch to triage calls for mutual aid Decision Support Criteria B: Works as EMS Branch Director (until relieved) during mass care events Decision Support Criteria C: Works with ED Charge RN to provide EMS staff support for ED

    5. Monitors process improvement Criteria A: Works with clinical educator to evaluate low frequency high risk procedures Monitors process improvement Criteria B: Provides coaching of employees as needed during shifts Monitors process improvement Criteria C: Ongoing concurrent QA with Norwalk Hospital providers Monitors process improvement Criteria D: Participates in EMS and hospital wide process improvement projects

    6. Managing human resources Criteria A: Participates in employee candidate interviews Managing human resources Criteria B: Continually evaluates employee performance, perform quarterly and yearly reviews of staff. Managing human resources Criteria C: Primary training and preceptor for new hires and paramedics Managing human resources Criteria D: If assigned, Complete weekly payroll

    7. Attends and represents EMS at Hospital meetings Criteria A: Attends and participates in EMS management meetings Attends and represents EMS at Hospital meetings Criteria B: Presents at CME business meetings Attends and represents EMS at Hospital meetings Criteria C: Works with the Director to draft operational policies Attends and represents EMS at Hospital meetings Criteria D: Attends other hospital meetings representing EMS, as assigned

    8. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director Criteria A: Fleet service Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director Criteria B: Supplies/Equipment Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director Criteria C: emsCharts operational QA Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director Criteria D: Emergency Vehicle Operations QA

    9. Performs other duties as assigned.

    10. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

    Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

    Other Information

    Required: The Supervisor will be a State of Connecticut Licensed Paramedic. A minimum of two years of college is preferred and experience in a lead role is preferred.

    Minimum Experience: zero to six months

    Desired: Must have exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and take control of chaotic situations while establishing treatment and situational priorities. Must maintain at all times: Connecticut paramedic license, ACLS, PALS and BLS/CPR 'certifications'. Preferred certifications included; NRP, PHTLS, PEPP, GEMS and CEVO (or similar emergency vehicle operator�s course). Must maintain a valid driver's license.
