    Position Summary

    Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator- Preparedness- Boca Raton, FL.

    This position reports to the Director of Emergency Management. This position provides coordination, support, and assistance with all emergency management program elements, operations and initiatives for the University. This position supports FAU's Department of Emergency Management before, during, and after all emergencies and incidents. The Emergency Management Coordinator may also supervise interns in the Department of Emergency Management.

    Summary of Responsibilities

    • Coordinates the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of emergency management policies, programs, plans, procedures, and related initiatives for the University in accordance with Federal, State, and local emergency management requirements and standards.

    • Assists with coordinating assessments and surveys related to the University's susceptibility to natural, technological, and man-made disasters.

    • Facilitates and conducts needs assessment and surveys to identify gaps in current emergency preparedness and response capabilities, leveraging this analysis to inform the development of the training and exercise program.

    • Develops, coordinates, facilitates, leads, and evaluates university and unit exercises, drills, and training in accordance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).

    • Design and implement a comprehensive multi-year training and exercise program tailored to enhance the University's emergency response capabilities, ensuring alignment with national preparedness guidelines.

    • Oversee the development and maintenance of a multi-year exercise calendar, ensuring a balanced approach to testing all critical functions and response capabilities over time.

    • Coordinate with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies and other key stakeholders to ensure the training and exercise program is comprehensive, inclusive, and meets all regulatory and other standards.

    • Develop and manage an Integrated Improvement Plan (IIP) that systematically captures lessons learned and areas for enhancement identified through exercises and real-world events, ensuring continuous program improvement.

    • Implement an evaluation framework to measure the effectiveness of training and exercises, using metrics and benchmarks to assess progress towards preparedness goals and objectives.

    • Assist in the coordination of a budget for the training and exercise program, to promote the efficient use of resources.

    • Develops, coordinates, and hosts public outreach initiatives to train university students, faculty, staff, and non-FAU entities on preparedness and emergency response procedures.

    • Engages in educational outreach to the University community about the emergency management program and coordinates formal emergency management briefings and seminars to staff, faculty, students, residential populations, and the external community, as appropriate.

    • Manages technological/data/information platforms and resources, including leading the development of, testing, training, troubleshooting, and coordinating repairs and projects for the department and Emergency Operations Center. This includes emergency notification systems and emergency operations software.

    • Manages department and Emergency Operations Center resources such as equipment, supplies, vehicles, and emergency notification system hardware, including inspection, testing, performing, or coordinating repairs and projects.

    • Serves as a member of the University's Emergency Operations Team and is considered essential personnel and is required to be present, work remotely, or on-call during emergencies or disasters.

    • Assists with the coordination with the FAU Emergency Operations Center and associated emergency staff and facilitates the coordination of emergency support functions by the University, local, public, state, and federal agencies, and entities.

    • Performs other job-related duties as necessary.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

    Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary and work during emergencies affecting the University required.

    Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

    Experience in higher education.

    Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training and exercises.

    Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with experience in community engagement and outreach.

    Salary

    $60,000.00 per year.
