    The Donor Coordinator will effectively screen, triage all incoming organ, and tissue referrals. Provide hospital personnel and all callers with prompt, efficient processing of incoming and outgoing calls. Utilize Donor Center intake best practice to fully optimize organ and tissue referral potential for donation. Primary function is to support all intake referrals and logistically communicate to hospitals and medical examiner offices for holds and obtain additional information to optimize donation approach.

    Responsibilities:

    • Answers incoming calls and communicates non-donor related messages to

      appropriate personnel

    • Collects hospital and patient information and pre-screening criteria on all incoming donor- related calls.

    • Evaluates incoming organ, tissue and eye/cornea referral calls for donor suitability and 

      advises

      hospital staff of patient’s eligibility for donation. Provides instruction on

      next

      steps in the referral process.

    • Immediately directs organ referral calls to

      appropriate Clinical

      Manager/AOC.

    • Offers families the opportunity to donate. Obtains and documents telephone consents for tissue donation

      in accordance with

      organizational protocol. 

    • Maintains consent and approach levels consistent with at least 85% of departmental goals.

    • Obtains and documents extensive medical/social history screenings

      utilizing

      information from medical records,

      lab

      and diagnostic tests, med/soc provided by next of kin and hospital personnel. 

    • Secures permission of county coroner or medical

      examiner

      if necessary, before

      proceeding

      with donation.

    • Places status follow

      -up

      calls to hospital staff on pending tissue referrals.

    • Coordinates the offer of suitable tissues to appropriate Tissue Banks

      in accordance with

      established protocols.

    • Notifies Tissue

      Recovery Team Leader and

      appropriate staff

      regarding Tissue consent and donation. Dispatches

      appropriate staff

      for surgical recovery of tissue donor cases

      in accordance with

      established protocols.

    • Enters initial referral information into computerized database and reviews entries for accuracy. Completes all necessary documentation within established

      timeframes

      . Processes daily referral log.

    • Completes required paperwork associated with referrals and shift report for Donor Center Manager.

    • Makes

      an initial

      quality assurance check of charts compiled. Files chart in

      appropriate place

      . Works with Quality Systems department to ensure all necessary information is provided.

    • Maintains the highest level of Customer Service and professionalism at all times.

    • Other duties may be assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field and/or an Associate’s degree with one to three years related work experience with families and patients in grief/crisis situations required. Sensitivity to grieving families and the ability to provide support and information to those families facing the decision to donate is required. Strong knowledge of medical terminology required.
    • Must be proficient in computer usage Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be customer-service oriented. Must have the ability to make sound clinical assessments in crucial situations. An understanding of and commitment to the organ and tissue donation process is essential.
    • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to make sounds assessments in a fast- paced environment.

    There is a 8% shift differential for night shift(s) per hours worked 7:30pm-8am

    Must reside in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Connecticut

    Salary Range: $50,000- $60,000
