Description
Directs, manages, and provides spiritual care for the hospital. Promotes ministries of spiritual and emotional care to patients, families, and hospital staff as well as interfaith services to the hospital community. Directs, manages, and provides guidance and emotional support as well as education to caregivers.
Directs the provision of spiritual care and counseling to patients, families & hospital staff in individual, family or group contexts, as appropriate and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Provides caregivers with tools to cope and acts as a resource for stress reduction and guidance.
Provides on-going assessment and counseling of complex care-giving issues while working collaboratively with hospital staff.
Directs outreach programs both internally and externally.
Initiates and maintains cooperative relationships with community clergy & faith groups, as well as facilitates their appropriate ministry.
Conducts educational programs for in-service training in spiritual care for hospital staff, clergy, and lay persons.
Develops educational, supportive, and informational programs for caregivers, as well as resources online, in the community, and within the hospital.
Provides and coordinates religious services.
Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings and attends & serves in professional/civic organizations as a hospital representative.
Supervises Manager of Goldstone Caregiver Center, Catholic and Hospital Chaplains (Danbury Hospital and new Milford Hospital), Parish Nurse Coordinator, Volunteer Chaplain Associates, Volunteer Caregiver Coaches, and Department Administrative Assistant.
Conducts regular departmental meetings for communication, training, and staff support.
Selects, trains/orients and assigns volunteer staff.
Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance & initiates or makes recommendations for personal actions.
Develops departmental goals and objectives, & establishes & implements policies & procedures for the department as well as creating departmental budget.
Ensures that department operates within that budget & maintains other pertinent records.
Participates in special projects as directed/required including representing the hospital at interfaith meetings, community events, etc.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: MASTER'S LVL DGRE
Required: Experience in grief counseling and stress management, and four units of Clinical Pastoral Education required.
Minimum Experience: five years
Manual: Little or no manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk
Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Generally pleasant working conditions
