    Job Description

    The Director of Libraries supports, inspires, and supervises the library staff and works closely with teachers to provide appropriate materials and instruction to support the school's mission and curriculum. This position entails teaching regularly scheduled classes, collection development, integration of 21st century skills and technology, cataloging, library management, and active participation in the life of the school. This skilled professional fosters positive relationships and dedicates themselves to our core principles of character, educational vigor, diversity, and community.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide effective leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating the curricular content of the libraries' programs
    • Empower students to be enthusiastic readers, critical thinkers, researchers, and ethical users of information
    • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and other colleagues to continually innovate new ways to promote teaching and learning, particularly in the areas of research, information literacy, and inquiry-based learning
    • Administer the library to meet SA's mission and goals and employ professional standards of operation through all aspects of interaction and management
    • Oversee the development, management, and organization of the library collection in both the Hansen and Marion Hutchins libraries
    • Apply current and emerging information technologies to the administration of the school libraries and for instruction and learning services
    • Serve as a professional information consultant to the other members of the SA community
    • Lead the library staff in the day-to-day operation of the library and engage their capabilities with a focus on their long-term professional development
    • Oversee and manage all library funds and budgets for both the Hansen and Marion Hutchins libraries
    • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the working environment, collections, programs, and services
    • Participate in regular professional development, serving as a role model for the library staff
    • Promote school life by sponsoring student activities and serving on academic committees

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required. Masters of Library/Information Science with concentration in School Library Services, preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant library teaching experience necessary; 5 years preferred.
    • Proven success working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and school leaders
    • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal skills
