  • JOB SUMMARY

    Dir Labor Relations is responsible for planning, developing, and directing labor relations practices and policies for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH), which may include monitoring local and national union activity including union organizing drives, union campaigns, and dispute resolution activity. Recommends and implements strategy related to labor relations topics in support of the business needs of BSWH. Leads and develops the organizational response to any union organizing campaigns and election petitions. Collaborates closely with Team Member Relations, HR, Legal, Risk, and Compliance teams on HR policy interpretation, employment law, issue resolution, and leader advisement. Develops and implements labor education training programs for leadership and staff. Provides education and guidance to leaders and employees regarding labor relations, HR policies, conflict resolution, and other employment matters.

    A system Director translates and implements strategic plans and objectives for area of responsibility. Makes final decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives. Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have negative impact on the success of the area, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs of the unit. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

    1. Directs system-wide labor relations policy and related programs for BSWH.

    2. Develops and implements labor relations strategies and programs that support BSWH business objectives.

    3. Serves as primary point of contact for all labor relations matters and provides recommendations to Team Member Relations, HR, Legal, and other teams on effective labor relations response.

    4. Leads labor relations monitoring and initiatives, including risk assessment and mitigation, issue identification and resolution, and proactive employee relations.

    5. Directs the review and analysis of labor relations trends, best practices, and healthcare developments and provides guidance on labor-specific issues to senior leadership.

    6. Partners with business leaders to proactively respond to shifting business needs and associated labor implications.

    7. Develops and collaborates on innovative and progressive labor relations initiatives to strengthen employee satisfaction and engagement.

    8. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.

    9. Works closely with inside and outside legal counsel on labor relations matters when warranted.

    10. Leads education and training for leadership, HR, and other relevant stakeholders on labor relations topics.

    KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

    1. Bachelor's degree in HR, employment law, business, or related degree preferred.

    2. 5+ years of experience in labor relations, employee relations, HR, or related field, with healthcare experience preferred.

    3. 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.

    4. HR Certifications preferred (e.g., SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP).

    5. Thorough understanding of human labor relations, employee relations, and HR principles, practices, and procedures.

    6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

    7. Ability to create strong business relationships with business leaders and key stakeholders.

    8. Ability to work collaboratively across a large, matrixed healthcare organization to ensure HR programs and messaging are delivered quickly, consistently, and effectively across multiple channels and locations.
