Director, Index Portfolio Management

Equities Portfolio Manager

Build and enhance the infrastructure and assist in managing a series of equity portfolios as part of a small team managing over $200 billion in passive equity strategies. The Index team is responsible for all pure index and Socially Responsible equity strategies across many investment vehicles including mutual funds, ETFs, CITs and separately managed accounts, servicing both institutional and retail clients. This team operates from both New York and San Francisco, working closely with the equity trading desk and several operationally intensive groups within Nuveen.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Maintain/manage processes that support the investment platform.

• Assist in management of cash for funds.

• Assist in electing for corporate actions in the best interest of the funds

• Review and communicate investment performance to various internal stakeholders.

• Review impact of index changes to funds and notify PM of material changes.

• Manage portfolios (time frame dependent upon experience), which includes portfolio rebalancing, reviewing, and submitting trade lists.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of equities experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of asset management industry experience

• Fluency with a statistical programming language (Python preferred)

• A bachelor's degree in a science-related field (math/science/engineering) or social sciences (finance/economics)

• Knowledge of financial markets and quantitative techniques

• An understanding of the various benchmark construction methodologies and how they affect the management of portfolios.

• Detail oriented and ability to multi-task

• Strong verbal and written communications skills

• Ability to improve efficiency through technology/automation

• Experience with UNIX/LINUX navigation and scripting

• CFA or CFA candidate, or other investment related credential (e.g. CIPM, CFP)

Base Pay Range: $120,800/yr. - $157,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
