    As the Director, Global Sustainability Compliance , you will lead the development and integration of comprehensive global compliance strategies related to environmental, social, and related regulatory matters. This role requires a leader who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on management, ensuring Starbucks is prepared to meet evolving regulations. Collaborating cross-functionally, you will embed sustainable compliance practices, drive adherence to global standards, and proactively address regulatory risks.

    Key responsibilities include working with business functions and units to assess and prioritize compliance impacts, costs, and risks and build organizational capabilities to support these efforts, with an expectation of regular travel to our global markets to ensure coordination. We are seeking a strategic, collaborative, self-starter passionate about helping a large global organization anticipate and address environmental and social issues, including those related to the ever-changing regulatory environment. As a member of the Ethics & Compliance team, within Law & Corporate Affairs, you will play a critical role in integrating oversight of regulatory compliance into the broader legal/compliance strategy and team initiatives. This role reports directly to the svp, deputy general counsel, brand integrity and chief ethics and compliance officer and will work closely with other stakeholders in Law & Corporate affairs, including the vp, assistant general counsel, and corporate secretary.

    As a director, Global Sustainability Compliance, you will:

    • Translate Legal Requirements into Business Processes: Transform complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable business processes. Identify compliance needs across both third-party and internal operations and collaborate with global departments to align operational goals with legal standards, proactively preparing regional markets for emerging regulations.

    • Develop and Execute Compliance Strategies: Lead the development and implementation of robust compliance strategies and action plans across all markets. Actively monitor compliance performance, escalate issues as necessary, and ensure alignment with Starbucks' sustainability goals while minimizing global risks.

    • Advise on Operational and Risk Mitigation Strategies: Provide strategic guidance on risk mitigation approaches related to regulatory requirements. Harmonize fragmented sustainability-related workstreams within the legal function and advise on continuous operational improvements.

    • Centralize Compliance Communications: Foster a culture of compliance and ethical governance through transparent communication. Advise global business leaders and the Board of Directors on sustainability and social risks, ensuring alignment and understanding across the organization.

    We'd love to hear from people with:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree, with a strong understanding of legal frameworks and sustainability trends. organizational e standards and organizational goals.

    • Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing sustainability compliance in a legal or corporate setting to align with regulatory standards and organizational goals.

    • Excellent communication and training skills, with an ability to translate technical information for leadership.

    • 5+ years of experience providing technical and strategic leadership in sustainability, ESG, social impact, or human rights programs and related government affairs and communications matters.

    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to see around corners to mitigate risks and keep large projects on track.

    • Excellent cross-functional management skills and the ability to influence leaders, partners, and external resources without authority in a large, matrixed organization.

    • A passion for people and the planet, human rights, environmental justice and equity; desire to help partners and the organization thrive.

    *If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

    The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
