    Summary

    This position will be responsible for the execution of a global environmental management strategy, including the development of an environmental management system with standardized policies and procedures, risk mitigation efforts and culture maturity focus. This position will fully understand environmental regulations across all jurisdictions in which we operate, currently to include the USA, Canada, and the UK. This position will focus on environmental compliance and regulatory requirements across all operations.

    Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following

    • In consultation with the SVP EHS&S, develop environmental management strategies, goals, policies & procedures and metrics to ensure continuous improvement of our environmental management at Compass Minerals sites located in the USA, Canada, and UK.

    • Establish strategies associated with any remediation efforts needed, including interfacing with appropriate regulatory bodies, coordination of environmental consultant work.

    • In close consultation with the finance and legal teams, ensure the scientific and technical basis for environmental reserves is validated on a quarterly basis. Lead the efforts to develop the most cost effective strategy to meet regulatory requirements while ensuring fiduciary responsibility associated with these accounts. Validate and certify account balances quarterly.

    • Working closely with the SVP EHS&S, develop and implement systems, tools and guidance for operations and EHS leaders to ensure environmental compliance, risk mitigation and a culture of environmental excellence.

    • The above includes management of environmental compliance (including air, waste, water and others as applicable), and permitting oversight.

    • Oversee the work of site EHS leaders to ensure alignment with all of the programs above.

    • Provide expert support to operations personnel regarding environmental regulatory requirements in the USA, Canada, and UK.

    • Working closely with the Logistics teams, develop and implement systems, tools and guidance for to ensure continuous improvement of environmental management of owned and leased depots.

    • Working closely with the Sustainability group, ensure that environmental data is collected in our online platform in a timely, accurate manner.

    • Manage compliance audits, ensuring that reporting and follow-up is fully aligned with the appropriate regulations and company programs audited.

    • In coordination with the operations management, serve as a key contributor to environmental audits at all sites, ensuring consistent expectations and follow up to findings.

    • Oversee the execution of third party environmental compliance audits.

    • Routinely provide active field leadership and presence during site visits.

    • In collaboration with site EHS leaders, develop, implement, and ensure continual improvement of EHS policies and procedures.

    • Serve as key site resource for environmental management needs of the Overland Park headquarters facility.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field.

    • Familiarity and/or ability to become adept with environmental regulations in the USA, Canada, and UK.

    • 10 years minimum related experience.

    • Demonstrated environmental leadership skills.

    Preferred

    • Experience managing environmental in the mining industry.

    • 15-20 years' experience with progressive responsibility for EHS&S functions

    • Technical expertise in environmental management systems, ISO certifications,

    • In depth knowledge of regulations related to air, waste, water, transportation of dangerous goods, chemical inventory reporting and other emergency response requirements,

    • Implementation and/or oversight of Safety Management Systems and/or Environmental Management Systems

    • CIH, CSP or CHMM desirable
