  • Renal Dietary Manager

    Health Systems Management, Inc. We are currently seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly motivated Renal Dietary Manager to join our dialysis team.

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The Renal Dietary Manager coordinates the daily operation of the Dietetic Department while overseeing the development and administration of the Dietetic Program. The manager serves as a liaison between the Dietetic Programs of all Health Systems Management’s centers and oversees the CQI activities for those centers. The Dietary Manager may also provide direct and indirect clinical services to dialysis patients at the clinic.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    Requirements and Physical Demands:

    • Education:

      1. Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics. - required
      2. Master’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics. - preferred
      3. Professional Registration through American Dietetic Association.

      4. Current Dietetics licensure appropriate to the state of practice.

    • Experience:

      1. Minimum of one-year experience in clinical dietetics required (not including internship).
      2. Previous Experience with ESRD Patients – preferred
    • Language:

      1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and governmental regulations.

      2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

      3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, patients and general public.

    • Physical Demands

      1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk about the dialysis unit throughout the day; standing, sitting stooping and bending in order to interact with patients.

    • Work Environment:

      1. Works in a constantly changing environment.

      2. Working in small, congested areas.

      3. Potential exposure to patients with infectious diseases.

      4. Potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles and /or toxic or caustic chemicals.

      5. Routine exposure to stress related to working with patient who are chronically, acutely and sometimes terminally ill, while balancing multiple priorities and managing large caseloads.

      6. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    • Employee must successfully pass the Ishihara’s Color Blind Test.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Ensures that all services for optimal nutritional care are provided and assures accountability and responsibility for the delivery of care.

    • In partnership with Clinical Nurse Managers and Regional Nurse Administrators, coordinates operations and management of the dietary program, to include observances and management of the Code of Conduct, privacy and security of all documents for the patients and employees either electronic or paper.

    • Practices in accordance with organizational philosophy, goals and standards of care; State Board of Dietetics/Nutrition.

    • Utilizes effective communication skills with the multidisciplinary team members and other outside agencies.

    • Provides nutritional education to dialysis nursing staff and other multidisciplinary members.

    • Participates in nutritional research.

    • Participates in cost containment activities.

    • Accountable for other duties as requested.

    MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:

    • Manager and Staff Planning:

      • Coordinates staff planning and activities to maintain the highest quality of services in cooperation with the nurse administrator.

      • Coordinates case load distribution with staff to efficiently maximize resources and enhance effectiveness.

      • Fosters peer support and team building.

      • Follows proper channels of communication.

      • Participates in recruiting activities, hiring manager interviews and selection of personnel for vacancies within the Dietary Program.

      • Monitor and manage new staff orientation and ensures all staff remain active the current with licenses, certifications, training, CEUs for professional, renal and patient care.

      • Partners with Clinical Nurse Managers to monitor performance, complete annual performance evaluations, and ensure Code of Conduct is observed; Dietitian Manager will work with CNMs to initiate and complete employee discipline processes as outlines in HSM’s Personnel Policy and Procedures Manual.

      • Conserves resources and uses work time productively

    • Dietitian Program:

      • Demonstrates commitment to the dialysis facility’s philosophy, goals and standards of care.

      • Participates as active member of the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.

      • Coordinates CQI process for Dietary Program on a regional basis.

      • Completes annual performance evaluations of staff to monitor areas requiring improvement.

      • Communicates patient nutritional care strategies and patient problems/needs to the multidisciplinary team.

      • Networks with outside agencies regarding patient’s nutritional needs, provides education and reference materials as needed.

      • Participates win patient care planning sessions.

      • Provides nutritional in-services as requested.

      • Provides nutritional orientation programs for staff.

      • Participates in renal nutrition education of students as requested.

      • Provides nutritional care of patient per study protocol.

      • Collects and provides accurate dietary data per study protocol.

      • Collaborates with unit and research dieticians on study protocols.

      • Ongoing communications with study multidisciplinary team members.

      • Attends all mandatory in-services at facility.

      • Attends facility dietitian meetings.

    • Continuing Education:

      • Attends continuing education offerings at the facility, workshops and seminars (national and local).

      • Maintains knowledge base by reviewing renal nutrition literature on a continual basis.
