Diesel Mechanic Shop Manager

Job Description

Manage a team of Service Advisors, Parts Advisors, and Shop Mechanics. Oversee schedules, work assignments, and performance monitoring. Ensure smooth operations and high-quality maintenance and repair services.

Responsibilities

• Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities based on priority, equipment quantity, and personnel skills.

• Create, monitor, and adjust employee schedules, including handling time off requests in coordination with Human Resources.

• Be available outside of normal work hours to assist mechanics and dispatchers during 2nd and 3rd shifts, and handle weekend shop emergencies/concerns.

• Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports in coordination with the Human Resource Manager.

• Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.

• Coordinate work activities and resolve employee grievances in collaboration with management.

• Counsel employees on work-related issues and assist in correcting job-skill deficiencies.

• Recommend or initiate personnel actions such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures.

• Coach and develop technicians through direct hands-on training of repairs and operational procedures.

Essential Skills

• Experience in diesel troubleshooting and repair

• Knowledge of diesel engines and preventive maintenance

• 5+ years of experience in a shop or service center environment, preferably with a focus on fleet management

• Experience managing a team of mechanics and coordinating with vendors

• Proven track record of delivering quality repairs and maintenance on time and within budget

• Knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00
