  • What You Will Do

    The Environmental Protection and Compliance division, Compliance Programs Group is seeking a trustworthy professional to provide deployed environmental compliance support to facilities, operations, and projects in support of the Los Alamos National Laboratory's mission. You will collaborate with Environmental Protection and Compliance Division's environmental program subject matter experts to ensure environmentally compliant operations are being planned and/or conducted in the field. You will become the trusted environmental resource assisting the organization you are deployed to in navigating the numerous environmental requirements applicable to your assigned area. During the course of your job functions, you are likely to delve into many unique and exciting environmental programs at the Lab.

    Deployed Environmental Professional 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)

    Your day-to-day activities will include monitoring and providing guidance and resolutions for a diverse scope of environmental requirements with complex issues. As a seasoned environmental professional you will utilize your diverse environmental background to work independently on specific issues and collaboratively to develop goals/objectives within the team. This position provides a highly motivated and customer service oriented professional an excellent opportunity to collaborate with environmental subject matter experts while supporting the diverse mission at Los Alamos National Laboratory and may require working swing/night shifts and weekends for extended periods of time.

    These activities include:

    • Completing environmental compliance inspections and documentation;

    • Completing site/field assessments against environmental requirements;

    • Assessing environmental risk and collaborating with customers to develop corrective actions;

    • Creating/revising environmental implementation documents or reports; and

    • Collaborating with environmental program subject matter experts and the deployed customers to ensure planned work is conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.

    • Participate in Integrated Project Teams representing Laboratory environmental requirements.

    • Proactively engaging with customers in an outgoing, professional, and friendly manner.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Working knowledge of and experience in implementing two major federal/state environmental protection statutes as they relate to water quality, air quality, biological resources, pollution prevention, cultural resources, and National Environmental Policy Act, etc.

    • Ability and experience working independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing team-based environment through strong interpersonal skills.

    • Experience and skill in communicating (both written and verbal) in a clear concise manner to superiors, peers, customers, and other team personnel.

    • Experience evaluating complex proposed work scopes and technical documents for adequacy with regard to a broad range of environmental requirements.

    • Ability to obtain DOE "Q" Clearance, which typically requires U.S. Citizenship.

    Education/Experience Required: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience with implementing federal and state codes, standards, and regulations in several key environmental areas, such as Environmental Protection Agency: National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System; Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures; and EPA Title V Air permitting, Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Plans and Best Management Practices.

    • Environmental certifications such as: Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC), EPA Method 9 Opacity Certification, New Mexico Class A/B Operator Certification - Above Ground Storage Tanks, New Mexico Water Sample Technician (WST) 2.

    • Active DOE "Q" Clearance.

    Work Schedule: May require weekend work.

    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

    Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

    Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

    New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

    Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

    Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
