  • Eaton's Electrical Sector is currently seeking a Customs and Transportation Coordinator to join our team. This is an initial 8-month contract opportunity based at our Burlington, Ontario office.

    What you'll do:

    This position will oversee the day-to-day importing, exporting and customs related activities of Eaton industries (Canada) Company. This includes but is not limited to maintaining the Customs Self-Assessment (CSA) program, updating and administering compliance policies, analyzing and approving products for classification and country of origin marking and labeling, monitoring and reviewing documentation, record keeping, annual reconciliation and duty assist evaluation.

    The incumbent will also be asked to work on the coordination of release and accounting of all imported purchases in a "self-clearance" environment. This will ensure that transactions are processed in a timely and cost-effective manner with regard for compliance with customs rules and regulations as well as with Eaton policies and procedures. Preparation and coordination of export documentation and shipment release for all Canadian shipping locations is also an integral part of this position.

    In this function you will:

    • Co-ordinate and verify accuracy of documentation from international vendors to facilitate preparation of customs import transaction.

    • Prepare and submit transactions for release and CSA accounting via EDI to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Ottawa.

    • Communicate with CBSA, Border Agents and Transportation providers to co-ordinate & expedite release of both import and export transactions.

    • Provide internal customers with status of imported shipments.

    • Prepare documentation required to facilitate shipment from all Canadian facilities to export customers and plants, ensuring that Canadian export regulations and specific requirements of the importing country are met.

    • Communicate with all source plants and third party vendors to obtain required import documentation.

    • Download items and shipments files daily from SAP to create MSR shipment reports for all divisions.

    • Manage and process CSA shipments through MSR shipment reports and EDI customs broker.

    • Research and determine the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification, tariff treatments and country of origins for new and existing part numbers. Review with the Centre of Excellence (COE) to ensure compliance with Canada customs.

    • Create and maintain material numbers, vendors and importers in MSR's database and ERP.

    Qualifications:

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Community College certificate in International Trade Practices

    • Three (3) years of experience in an Import/Export and Transportation related capacity

    • Two (2) years of experience in the area of Canadian Customs regulations

    • Two (2) years of experience in CSA related reporting environment

    • Must be eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship now or in the future.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience of working in MSR Import /Export software an asset

    • Basic Accounting Knowledge

    • Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Certification/Professional Designation
