Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Cultural Heritage Specialist to join our growing team on a casual, on-call basis. Our expertise includes managing large, complex projects involving multiple stakeholder communities and various levels of jurisdiction. Our core team specializes in built heritage and cultural heritage landscape conservation, planning, and management, particularly in the context of environmental assessments and land-use planning and development activities. We focus on infrastructure projects and have extensive experience supporting all phases of the development process-planning, design, construction, and operations.
This role offers hybrid flexibility and will be based out of one of our Ontario offices: London, Barrie, Richmond Hill, Kitchener, Sudbury, Ottawa, North Bay, Hamilton, Mississauga, or Markham.
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Junior Cultural Heritage Specialist to help preserve and maintain cultural heritage assets while ensuring their long-term sustainability. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with architects, historians, and conservation professionals to protect and enhance our cultural heritage.
Principal Responsibilities:
You will support the Cultural Heritage team with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Preparing detailed documentation of heritage resources, including land use histories and historic property research.
Collaborating with team members to prepare heritage and planning documents such as Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports, Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Assessment Reports, Documentation and Salvage Reports, conservation plans, and other documents required for planning applications and heritage-related projects.
Evaluating heritage resources using the criteria outlined in Ontario Regulation 9/06 and Ontario Regulation 10/06.
Drafting Statements of Cultural Heritage Value and developing lists of heritage attributes.
Conducting field surveys within Ontario as necessary, providing written descriptions, including architectural details of built heritage resources and cultural heritage landscapes documented in the field.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a heritage-related program or a heritage-related diploma.
Fundamental knowledge in heritage conservation.
Excellent writing skills with the ability to self-edit.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Valid Canadian Class G driver's license.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects while delivering high-quality work on time and within budget.
Familiarity with heritage legislation frameworks and policies, including the Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement, Ontario Heritage Act, the Standards and Guidelines for Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties, the Parks Canada Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, and municipal Official Plan heritage policies.
Additional Information
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $21.00/hour - $30.00/hour.
