Title: Coordinator of Autism Behavior Support
Autism & Behavior Support Coordinator Position Description:Reporting to the Executive Director of Health & Related Services in the Student Support Unit, the Autism & Behavior Support Coordinator is responsible for leading the district Autism Team, coordinating the Behavior-Medical Support Team and special education services for non-public schools in Jefferson parish. The Autism & Behavior Coordinator implements staff development for the district personnel who work with children who have Autism and significant emotional, behavioral, and social concerns. The Coordinator collects and maintains data to insure district, state and federal compliance.
Reports To:Executive Director of Health & Related Services
Scope of Responsibility:- Facilitates the JPS Behavior-Medical Support Team
- Leads the JPS Autism Team
- Liaison between Community ABA agencies and JPS schools
- Coordinates JPS's Non-Public School special education services
- Conducts Meaning Consultation Meetings with Non-Public Schools in Jefferson Parish
- Provides on-going training to JPS staff in the area of Autism and behavioral support
- Collects and maintains data to insure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations
- Assists in preparing budget requests and helps determine procedures for allocation funds for Autism services
- Ensures that necessary equipment, computer hardware and software, materials and supplies are ordered and maintained
- Provides information and assistance to parents, community groups, service agencies and others
- Attends monthly Student Support and Health & Related Services Leadership meetings
- Participates in monthly meetings with the Executive Director of Health & Relates Services to provide the status of these departments
- Monitors the compliance of required reports for supervised programs (progress reports, IEPs, JCampus)
- Maintains security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to data bases
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Health & Related Services
Skills and Qualifications:- Master's degree required from an accredited university/college required
- Appropriate certification as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education
- 5+ years working experience in an educational setting
- Leadership ability and experience providing professional development
- Training in administering and interpreting educational diagnostic tests
- Experience working with students classified as Autistic
- Experience working with students with significant emotional, behavioral and social concerns
- Knowledge of evidenced based practices addressing autism, behavior, emotional, and social concerns
- Strong written and oral communication skills in multiple settings
- Ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and motivate
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations
- Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and results
- High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking
- Working knowledge of SER, IEPs, IAPs and federal and state laws, policies and regulations relevant to schools and special education
- Proficient in Google Suite
Desirable Qualifications:- Bilingual
- 3+ years working with students with significant behavioral, emotional and social concerns in schools
- 3+ years working with students with Autism in schools
Physical Involvement:Sitting is required part of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching,
bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations
and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
