    About the Opportunity:

    The Controller will be accountable for overseeing the day-to-day activities and performance of a team of finance analysts. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining a financial reporting system, monitor internal controls and be involved in other financial activities.

    Responsibilities of the Controller:
    • Lead team of financial analysts, and continue to develop a cohesive group;

    • Monitor internal controls; ensure that accounting/financial activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and SWG’s internal policies and procedures;

    • Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal corporate tax requirements;

    • Own cash management and internal control over cash and cash-related policies within a company;

    • Oversee month-end and year-end close and review balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of general ledger;

    • Ensure trust receivables and trust payables over 90 days are kept to a minimum and any issues are resolved in a timely manner;

    • Lead the preparation of monthly financial statements;

    • Compare financial results to budget as well as provide analysis and explanations for variances;

    • Design and maintain financial forecasts, cash flow forecasts and variance analysis;

    • Maintain financial reporting system and accounting system (Microsoft Dynamics) including GL chart of accounts and accounting mapping for financial reporting;

    • Lead the effort in developing and reporting financial KPIs;

    • Maintain and develop new financial reports for Senior Leadership;

    • Lead the budget and forecasting preparation and analysis;

    • Coordinate with external auditors during yearly audits and assists with market audits as required;

    • Prepare and develop ad hoc reports to improve accounting systems, processes and reporting;

    • Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting;

    • Design and implement business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls;

    • Focus on process improvement;

    • Other duties as required. 

    What we look for:

    The ideal candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual and collaborator who is client focused, proactive in dealing with situations and uses critical judgment to make decisions and offer solutions. In addition, we are seeking: 

    • CPA or CA designation;

    • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related studies;

    • 3-5 years’ experience in a Financial Controllership role with experience managing finance professionals;

    • Experience in conducting financial audits;

    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics;

    • Strong leadership and communication skills with proven supervisory skills;

    • Ability to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities;

    • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Great Plains);

    • Experience in Insurance Industry considered an asset;

    • Detail and process orientated with strong analytical skills;

    • Bilingual (French & English) is an asset.
