Job Description:
The Contract Officer position is within the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) at Intermountain. The OSP is a central system-level administration office responsible for sponsored projects administrative processes and the delegated team to oversee and facilitate sponsored projects on behalf of Intermountain. This position specifically focuses on manages industry contracts (e.g., Clinical Trial Agreements (CTAs)), grant agreements, sub-agreements, data sharing agreements and other related agreements.
The primary purpose of the Contract Officer position is to efficiently and timely draft, review, negotiate, and resolve disputes and other contract administration issues with sponsored agreements (industry, federal and state government, non-profits, etc.). Candidates with experience in clinical trial agreements are highly preferred.
The Contract Officer collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, including research/project teams, legal counsel, signing official, research administration and accounting, to ensure compliance with institutional policies, sponsor requirements, and regulatory standards. The Contract Officer serves as a key liaison between the institution and external parties, utilizing strong negotiation skills to facilitate mutually beneficial agreements.

Serves as a subject matter expert for grant management, provides expert advice and guidance on research proposals, awards and administrative processes.
Provides assistance and guidance in the determination of sponsoring agency submission and expenditure requirements.
Coordinates budget preparation and design with Investigator for grant, contract and subcontract applications.
Reviews proposals for completeness and assists with the adherence of required institutional documentation and deadlines.
Analyzes proposals, awards and agreements for compliance and consistency with federals and state laws and regulations, institutional policies, research compliance restrictions and guidelines, financial and academic requirements, and agency policies and procedures.
Maintains a current knowledge of federal requirements, institutional policies and procedures governing externally funded grants and contracts.
Monitors project spending to ensure funds received are expended according to federal, state and Intermountain policy.
Makes requests for additional and supplemental approvals from funding sponsor when required by a grant or contract.
Negotiates terms and conditions with sponsoring entities for proposals, awards, cooperative agreements and subcontracts.
Identifies and communicates potential funding opportunities to research leaders, programs and investigators.
Follows policies and procedures related to grants and contracts management.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff)
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years relevant research administration and grants management experience in a research setting.
Strong communication and organization skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment preferred.
Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
Must have solid judgment and capacity to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity and promote effective solutions.
Must have a strong commitment to constructively contribute to a customer service environment, providing professional, timely, efficient, and courteous service to the university research community.
Minimum Qualifications (Senior)
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years relevant research administration and grants management experience in a research setting.
Strong communication and organization skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment preferred.
Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
Must have solid judgment and capacity to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity and promote effective solutions.
Must have a strong commitment to constructively contribute to a customer service environment, providing professional, timely, efficient, and courteous service to the university research community.
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical trial agreement experience.
Master's Degree
3 or more years of relevant research administration and contract management experience
Experience with contract negotiation, industry clinical trial agreements, subaward agreements, sub-award monitoring, or post-award non-financial monitoring
Experience with the use of Grants. Gov, NSF Fastlane / ~~~, NIH eRA Commons / ASSIST.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$29.66 - $46.72
