    Team Overview: The Virtual Machine Data Plane team is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the virtualization stack that supports running customer virtual machines. Our hypervisors run across all CPU architectures and virtualize underlying hardware capabilities like CPU, GPU, NVMe with near-bare metal performance. We are continually pushing the boundaries of virtualization technology to achieve our mission of offering customers highly-performant, always-available, and elastic virtual machines.

    Role Summary: As a Consulting Member of Technical Staff, you will be responsible for leading software development efforts for significant features in Oracle Compute's service offerings. The role requires a blend of hands-on engineering expertise and leadership skills, focusing on building and operating large-scale, highly available cloud services. The ideal candidate will mentor team members, drive high-priority programs, and contribute to the evolution of standard practices within the software engineering division.

    Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Own the software design and development for major components of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure Virtual Machine product building new solutions across the virtualization software stack

    • Drive operational excellence and best practices to improve the quality of the hypervisor and virtual machine platform

    • Deep dive into any part of the stack from low-level Linux systems to high-level distributed system interactions to root cause issues and ensure our systems are resilient and fault tolerant.

    Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Own the software design and development for major components of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure Virtual Machine product building new solutions across the virtualization software stack

    • Drive operational excellence and best practices to improve the quality of the hypervisor and virtual machine platform

    • Deep dive into any part of the stack from low-level Linux systems to high-level distributed system interactions to root cause issues and ensure our systems are resilient and fault tolerant.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of software development experience in systems or application-level engineering

    • 3+ years of experience with OS kernel internals (e.g. memory management, device driver architecture)

    • 3+ years of experience with PC architecture and virtualization (e.g. QEMU/KVM, Hyper-V, ESX)

    • Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Go, Rust, Java, Python

    • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and operating systems

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

    • Working familiarity of networking protocols (L2/L3/L4) and standard network architecture

    • Experience with Linux performance tools

    • Experience with Infrastructure-as-a-Service platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)

    • Experience with GPU, SmartNIC, SR-IOV/VFIO, vDPA, TPM, SEV, live migration

    US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

    Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

    Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
