    Job Description

    AECOM is currently seeking a Construction Manager for a large, multi-disciplinary Hydropower construction project located in East Canada. The selected candidate will interact daily with the project team, Client/Owner and contractor's on-site teams, and reporting directly to the Project Manager.

    The responsibilities of the Construction Manager include, but are not limited to:

    • Leadership - Lead a team of construction specialists and means and methods engineers as well as inspectors during the construction phase. Act as primary point of contact between the Client/Owner, and contractor's teams and provide advice and guidance to the field team including the Client/Owner, field engineers and the contractor. Participate in executive level project meetings and provide strategic feedback and advice on construction services delivery.

    • Organization - Develop, lead, oversee and maintain a culture of organized work execution. Using existing document control and communication platforms, lead the organization of construction phase documentation and communication. Maintain and update, as required, the project Construction Support Services Management Plan.

    • Construction Support - Work closely with the project team to resolve complex constructability, work packages phasing and technical challenges. Oversee and manage the review process for technical submittals and RFIs using established workflows. Develop and monitor KPIs to track construction performance, risk, and trends. Support the review of any sensitive, high-priority, or high-risk items to mitigate potential delays, claims or other risks to the Client/Owner. Forecast level of effort for both field and office-based team for effective support of construction.

    • Field Reviews - Coordinate effort of field staff with office-based staff, communicate on-going and emerging issues on-site, provide look ahead schedules for regular or special inspections by engineers of record and establish, manage, and maintain effective communication between field staff and office-based staff. Review the standard execution of field review by supporting field engineering staff to ensure the overall quality and effective communication of all field reports. Prioritize inspection program based on quality trends and mitigation of engineering or owner risks.

    • Quality Management Reporting - Work with project Quality Manager to enforce standard and effective report of all quality management findings and reporting. Develop and monitor quality KPIs for field inspections, potential quality issues, and non-conformances to track performance, risks, and trends. Direct monthly reporting of quality.

    • Cost and Change Management - Support Project Cost estimate development during the different Project phases ( planning phase, Early contract engagement phase, construction phase). Monitor contract progress and make recommendation to owner for contractor payments. Oversee and manage the interface and review process of all change requests regardless of source. Anticipate potential problematic changes, proactively navigate problematic changes, and actively minimize impacts from any required change. Lead negotiation of change requests on behalf of engineer of record and actively advise Metro Vancouver on decision needs. Develop KPIs to monitor cost and schedule changes.

    • Schedule Management - Work with the planner and coordinate with the contractor scheduling team in review and management of construction baseline schedule and monthly construction schedule updates.

    • Safety - Develop a safety culture within the project CM Team. Confirm construction contractor safety programs are submitted, approved, and followed by all parties involved in the project.

    • Communication - Manage, review, and guide all field communication and coordinate with engineer of record communication. Work to build a cooperative partnership between Client/Owner, contractors, and all stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of project issues and the overall success of the project. Report on the status of project to the Client/Owner and project stakeholders, as required.

    • Risk - Provide regular and on-going input to the Project Manager on standard and emerging risks on the project from construction execution in the areas of quality, schedule, and cost.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements :

    • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or another related field + 8 years relevant experience in leading groups constructing large, complex capital projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

    • Experienced on large infrastructure projects.

    • Exemplary communication skills.

    • Skilled in collaboration in multiple stakeholder environments.

    • Experienced with construction contract administration

    Preferred Qualifications :

    • Hydropower and Water structures design/construction/operations experience.

    • Experienced 10+ years in large multidisciplinary construction projects.

    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng, PE, or ing.) with ability to be professionally registered and work in Canada

    Additional Information

    The elected candidate may work from anywhere in Canada and travel to site ocassionally.

    Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $195,000.00.
