    UW CSSC has an outstanding opportunity for a Conduct Specialist. The Conduct Specialist has responsibility for investigating and adjudicating alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code, which occurs both on and off campus. The Conduct Specialist will adjudicate both academic and behavioral misconduct. This includes determining appropriate educational sanctions for students found responsible for violating the Student Conduct Code.

    The Conduct Specialist will also have a collateral assignment in one or more functional areas. These areas include, but are not limited to: coordinating the department's efforts to be proactive about international students' success; development and assessment of learning outcomes; coordination of outreach efforts; and/or development of marketing and communication strategies.

    This position requires knowledge of the trends in the field of student conduct along with knowledge of student development theory and practice, as applied to student conduct administration. This position interacts with a variety of campus partners including faculty, staff and students. Requires a high level of computer competency as well as interpersonal skills. Must be able to manage competing tasks and prioritize work.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Student Conduct

    • Utilize student development theory and practice in the student conduct process. Counsel and advise students on an individual or group basis regarding behavioral, academic, substance abuse, safety and emotional issues. Initiate referrals when appropriate to proper resource agencies on campus.

    • Investigate and adjudicate alleged academic and behavioral violations of the Student Conduct Code. Conduct prompt, impartial, and thorough investigative interviews using the process and procedures in the Student Conduct Code and Student Governance and Policy. Determine and communicate administrative and educational student conduct sanctions where appropriate.

    • Uses computerized web-based data system technology to manage assigned student cases with a high level of attention to detail. Prepares disciplinary records for full hearing and administrative review processes, as necessary.

    • Occasionally serve as a Respondent Resource to students accused of misconduct, including sexual misconduct, by explaining the processes and procedures involved in Student Conduct proceedings, discussing academic advocacy resources, and participating in meetings with students as their resource, as appropriate. Serve as a Hearing Advisor in full hearings.Collateral Assignments:

    • Assist the development and implementation of assessment projects within the department.

    • Assist with the development of statistical and informational reports as requested.

    • Collaborate with the departments in the College of Arts & Sciences to create and promote a culture of academic integrity.

    • Develop and implement academic integrity prevention programs in conjunction with faculty, staff and students. Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning on programs for faculty.

    • Develop and coordinate outreach efforts providing training, consultation, and guidance to the campus community regarding academic initiatives, the Student Conduct Code, and services of CSSC.

    • Collaborate with the Office of First Year Programs to provide annual updates to materials provided throughout the student First Year Program experience.

    • Coordinate marketing materials and content for CSSC, including CSSC website, publications, and other initiatives.

    • Collaborate with campus colleagues to develop and oversee programs for international students to promote high standards of integrity both on and off campus and to introduce them to the American classroom environment.

    • Other policy initiatives or projects deemed necessary to support the mission of Community Standards & Student Conduct.General:

    • Participate in service to the University by serving on Student Life and University wide committees and taskforces.

    • Remain current and trained on best practices, emerging strategies and research at the local, state, and federal levels supporting the reduction of threats to the campus community and connecting students of concern to the supports necessary to enable their success.

    • Remain informed of best practices in student conduct and student affairs. Remain up to date on knowledge of laws and policies that effect practice of student conduct administration and share regularly with other members of the team.

    • Maintain the confidentiality of student records and student conduct files in accordance with the University, state and federal regulations. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree.

    • Two years' experience working with college students.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree.

    • Two to three years of work in a University level Student Conduct Office as a hearing officer.

    • Experience working with faculty and an ability to navigate complex systems.

    • Demonstrated strong verbal and written skills.

    • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic work environment.

    • Ability to develop reports and use data tracking to guide decision making.
