    As a Customer Relations Specialist (CRS) with the Taxpayer Rights Advocate Office, you'll serve as a vital link between taxpayers and the Department of Revenue, ensuring fairness, equity, and clarity in every interaction.

    You'll be the first point of contact, guiding taxpayers through complex processes, resolving disputes, and advocating for their rights.

    This role empowers you to streamline administrative burdens, foster trust, and create innovative solutions that enhance customer service at an agency-wide level! You'll drive systemic improvements by analyzing trends, proposing policy updates, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver impactful results.

    Your efforts will also shape public communications, from website updates to community events, to educate and engage diverse populations.     This position is eligible for telework to applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Telework eligibility is based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion. Commuting to the St. Paul office location for occasional in-person meetings is expected.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Three (3) years of professional experience representing or working on behalf of customers or constituents. *

    • Experience in drafting memos, internal communications, or other written material on behalf of a legislative office, government agency, nonprofit, or business.

    • Prior demonstrated experience advocating in underrepresented populations in a professional or volunteer capacity.

    *Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; juris doctor, an enrolled agent, or a certificate in public accounting substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.

    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

    • Ability to identify, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve critical issues.

    • Strong teamwork skills, including willingness and ability to consult with subject matter experts from operational teams within the organization.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with state or local government work.

    • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and cross-cultural competency, embracing open-mindedness and maintaining neutrality.

    • Ability to articulate intricate policy concerns to diverse stakeholders, translating intricate statutory language into lay terms suitable for both professionals and the general populace.

    • Experience exhibiting judgment on complex and ambiguous issues, fostering collaboration among leaders, teams, and stakeholders.

    • Ability to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace and work with individuals from all background, with the experience of creating a work environment where differences are valued, encouraged, and supported.

    • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a closely related field as determined by the agency

    Physical Requirements

    Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
