  • Responsible for the development and delivery of echocardiography & vascular lab specialty certification training programs. Works collaboratively with student trainees and team members to arrange instruction content and instructional time. Participates in the design & modification of on-line and in-person educational resources used in the development of student trainees. Serves as a connection between student trainees, educational partners, medical & administrative leadership, and diagnostic labs. Develops effective, collaborative relationships across departments & disciplines to broaden the students' learning experience. Supervises and coaches' trainees related to professional expectations, identifies deficiencies and opportunities for improvement, positioning them for success as UVA Health team members.

    • Working in conjunction with the Echo and Vascular Lab technical, administrative, and medical leadership.

    • Orienting students to specialty setting and key personnel.

    • Participates in the development, design & modification of online educational resources.

    • Coordinates & directs clinical specialty diagnostic learning & experience (i.e echo & vascular lab).

    • Works collaboratively with team members to arrange instruction and instruction time.

    • Serves as a connection between educational partners, administration, the student & diagnostic lab.

    • Coaches the trainees related to professional expectations, identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

    • Serves as a clinical teaching resource and subject matter expert.

    • Develops collaborative relationships across departments & disciplines to broaden the students' experience.

    • Guides the student and monitors progression toward completion of clinical training and educational goals.

    • Organize & evaluate program goals and effectiveness.

    • Orients student to the clinical site's safety & security measures.

    • Educates the clinical trainee on appropriate clinical & operational process, procedure, and protocols.

    • Models & instructs clinical trainee's on delivering quality patient care.

    • Provide consistent direct observation of the student as part of the evaluative process and weekly feedback.

    • Maintains open communication among educational partners, the student and clinic instructors.

    • Identifies, maintains and reports on program quality and data outcomes.

    Position Compensation Range: $35.31 - $56.50 Hourly

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.

    Experience: 5 years' echocardiography or vascular sonography experience, preferably in an academic medical setting, performing complex echo and/or vascular studies, teaching and precepting students.

    License/Certification: Echocardiography or Vascular Lab Sonographer certification with either CCI RVS or RCS, ARDMS RVT or RDCS within 12 months of hire. American Heart Association (AHA)

    Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and traveling, driving (occasionally for outreach clinics); reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: Manipulation of ultrasound transducer. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids disease.
