  • Job Summary

    This individual will serve as a role model and provide education to fellow employees. They will determine educational needs necessary for the various staff members within a hospital/clinic setting. The education should fulfill requirements that are deemed necessary by local and federal laws. The education will focus on customer service, patient experience and improving protocols at the hospital.

    An Educator is responsible for the assessment of educational needs and implementation of an organized program for education directed toward the goal of clinical competence and cost effective patient care of the highest quality. Utilizes the nursing process to develop, implement, and evaluate education for staff, patients, and the community. Serves as a resource and role model in the areas of clinical practice, patient experience and advocacy, and nursing leadership.

    This includes components of general orientation, unit orientation and nurse precepting, BLS/ACLS/PALS, AIDET, patient experience, and any other educational needs to be determined by nursing administration. Assists with development and implementation of patient experience strategic plans for service recovery/customer experience by providing training in all clinical settings. Implements an effective patient experience with an ongoing training program to measure, assess and improve the quality of care, treatment and services delivered to all patients. Working as a trusted advisor to all levels of management associates, utilizes appropriate models, tools and systemic approaches to drive initiatives which enhance RGH system's organizational performance.

    The Educator provides clinical supervision and health educational information to staff and patients and works collaboratively with directors and the Chief Nursing Officer. The Educator assesses the learning needs of staff, using both subjective and objective feedback and provides/plans in-services geared to meet the learning needs of the staff. The Educator incorporates current research and trends into practice and acts as an advisor to the Chief Nursing Officer regarding solutions/needs that meet both the organization's and patient's needs.

    Essential Functions
    • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
    • Implement education, applications, tools, and processes that assist in staff development and growth.
    • Must have strong computer and research skills to ensure they remain up to date with new developments, best practices and standards of care within the field of healthcare.
    • Public speaking and presentation skills are necessary as there will be ongoing educational presentations and in-services conducted at various levels within the organization.
    • Will perform periodic audits (reviewing patient care, outcomes and patient satisfaction), to note gaps in education and conduct a needs assessment in clinical areas for continued growth and development of staff.
    • Will be required to establish standard methods of care, utilizing evidence based practice and best practice standards.
    • Will be required to establish and implement orientation programs, alongside the departmental directors, within clinical departments throughout the facility.
    • Responsible for policies and procedures within the organization related to education, orientation and employee health.
    • Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements, accreditation bodies (DNV), and RGH policies and clinical responsibilities.

    • Complete annual education requirements.

    • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.

    • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
    • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
    • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services as needed.
    Qualifications
    • Minimum of three (3) years' general experience in acute hospital required.
    • Current RN license for state (NM) is required.
    • Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment
    • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications or ability to obtain within six (6) month of employment
    • Certified ACLS Instructor within six (6) months of assuming the position
    • Certified PALS Instructor within six (6) months of assuming the position
    • Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
    • Knowledge of customer service and/or service recovery

    Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
    • Physically demanding, high-stress environment
    • Position may require travel between associated clinics and off-site departments
    • May be up walking on feet up to 8 hours per day
    • May need to sit for up to 2-6 hours per day
    • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
    • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting
    • Light to moderate work with 30 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
