    Position Summary:

    The primary function of the Clinical Counsellor is specializing in providing care to adolescents and young adults (ages 12-24) who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder and are working towards their recovery. Patient and family support are key components of care.

    The goal of the process is for the counsellor to:

    • Assist

      the p

      atient

      to recognize

      the impact of the eating disorder on their development and functioning.

    • Help or

      assist

      the person

      and family

      to make a commitment

      to work toward recovery from the disorder

    • Provide guidance,

      assistance

      and support to the person’s efforts

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide support to

      Nursing and Support Staff

      when

      designated

      as senior staff on duty.

    • Conduct initial patient intake interview.

    • Complete patient assessment

      utilizing

      psychosocial history.

    • Develop individual treatment plans with

      the

      patient,

      in collaboration with the family, and

      continuing to

      monitor

      adherence to the plan, making changes when necessary.

      This is a collaborative process with the

      treatment team

    • Counsel

      the

      patient in individual sessions.

    • Plan and conduct conferences with family members

      , community service providers,

      or other persons significant to the patient.

    • Meet on a regular basis with all members of the multidisciplinary treatment

      team

    • Consult with

      clinical content/knowledge experts when

      required

    • Deliver lectures and educational presentations to the patient population as scheduled.

    • Participate in in-service workshops as assigned.

    • Act as a resource person for practicum students and other professionals as assigned.

    • Establish safeguards and keep assigned patient treatment files current.

    • Administer psychological testing as

      required

    • Respond to routine correspondence.

    • Perform other clerical and reporting tasks as necessary to facility operation.

    • Assign therapeutic duties to patients, in

      coordination

      with the treatment team.

    • Develop continuing care plan with patients and refer for

      appropriate

      resources

      as necessary on discharge

    • Convene and lead meetings as

      required

      ompletion of discharge summar

      ies & closing the patient file in the EMR.

    • Act as liaison to the Health and Safety Committee, when appointed by the Executive Director.

    Experience and Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of

      eating disorders.

    • Knowledge of CBT: usage of CBT in conjunction with co-occurring mental health issues. 

    • Knowledge of DBT: experience in distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and mindfulness. 

    • Professional experience

      working with concurrent mental health disorders.

    • Knowledge of substance use disorders. 

    • Experience

      facilitating

      group therapy, lecturing and educational presentations. 

    • Combination of education,

      training

      and experience in the field of mental health

      & addiction

      s.

    • M

      aster’s degree

      required

      with the ability to provide Psychosocial interventions per the Health Professions Act.

    • Updated knowledge of

      process addictions.

    • Must

      possess

      superior reading, writing and communication

      skills;

      both verbally and in writing.

    • Must be able to understand and follow directions.

    • Proficient computer skills.

    • Must be willing to give and receive feedback.
