Description of Work UnitThe Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS) houses academic, research, and clinical programs that address the promotion of human and animal health. The mission of the department is to deliver excellent undergraduate, graduate, and professional veterinary medical education in environmental and radiological health to prepare students to contribute to society; to conduct state of the art research in human and animal health focusing on environmental exposures and clinical applications; and to promote excellence in outreach and service to the citizens of Colorado, the United States, and globally through information transfer, research, continuing education and technical assistance. ERHS is unique in its multifactorial approach to disease that involves chemical, physical, and biological factors. ERHS provides undergraduate and graduate programs leading to B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Training is offered in a broad range of environmental and radiological health areas including biosafety, cancer biology, cell and molecular radiobiology and toxicology, contaminant ecology, health physics, medical physics, human and veterinary epidemiology, industrial hygiene, veterinary diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology, occupational safety, ergonomics, and risk assessment.

Desired Start DateApplicants are welcomed for a primarily clinical service appointment in the Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (VDI) service within the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS) at Colorado State University (CSU). Clinical duties include all modalities in small animal imaging, resident training, and participation in resident graduate committees. Clinical track candidates will be assigned duties with approximately 75% clinical service, 20% teaching, and 5% administration; however the VDI faculty are open to making this position as flexible as possible to tailor to the interests of the successful candidate.
Administrative services will be requested as needed by the service. The teaching effort includes contributing lectures to the DVM curriculum and ERHS imaging courses. Clinical investigative projects and scholarly endeavors are available but not required. Every faculty member participates in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. Opportunities for leadership exist as CSU embarks on new growth initiatives.
The successful candidate will join an internationally recognized diagnostic imaging program comprised of five additional faculty radiologists, six to eight residents, eight technologists, three office staff, and a PACS administrator. The program is located within the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in Fort Collins, Colorado and has an annual imaging caseload of nearly 16,000. The CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a progressive and collaborative workplace with 28 veterinary specialties and dedicated residents, students, and technologists working towards a common goal. The VDI faculty collaborate with faculty at both the Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center and the Equine Orthopedic Research Center, both located at the CSU South Medical Campus.
Abundant diagnostic imaging resources include digital and computed radiology, fully integrated web-based PACS and RIS system with voice recognition software, 2 Toshiba Aplio units, a GE LOGIQ 9 ultrasound unit, 2 small animal radiology suites, a Phillips Veradius C-arm, nuclear medicine (including a 16 slice PET/CT scanner and small animal gamma cameras), a Siemens Somatom Force-Dual source 128 slice CT, a 1.5 Tesla GE Signa MRI scanner and a linear accelerator radiation therapy unit. A state-of-the-art interventional suite/hybrid operating room is present in the VTH. A Siemens 64 slice CT and 3T MRI unit are now also available in the adjacent Translational Medicine Institute. Equine imaging equipment and facilities are housed at the newly opened adjacent equine hospital.
