  • POSITION TITLE: MH Practitioner-Children's Therapeutic Services & Support

    DEPARTMENT: Outpatient

    GENERAL HOURS

    OF WORK: Eight hour shifts- typically Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

    EXEMPT/NON EXEMPT: Exempt

    SUPERVISOR: Director of Operations

    POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing rehabilitative skills training to Children's Therapeutic Services & Supports (CTSS) qualifying child/adolescent clients in community and clinic settings to restore personal and social functioning to the proper developmental level. Included as part of a MN DHS certified CTSS team that provides a flexible package of mental health services to children who require varying therapeutic and rehabilitative levels of intervention.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science or related field from an accredited college or university and meets requirements for supervision and continuing education with 2000 hours of documented mental health services.

    May also meet eligibility by meeting only one of the requirements listed below

    If no BA, must have completed 4000 hours of verifiable supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with any of the following: mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Provide mental health skills services under the direction of the licensed Mental Health Professional in individual and/or group settings as outlined in the client's treatment plan to help children and adolescents adjust to managing the symptoms of their mental health condition(s)

    2. Mental Health Practitioner will provide culturally competent mental health skills services to children/adolescents with mental illness and their families.

    3. Mental Health Practitioner will develop rapport with guardians/parents of child client and engage the family in services and planning throughout the calendar year, as appropriate.

    4. Mental Health Practitioner will provide individual skills training and/or family skills training in the client's home, a community-based setting or agency setting.

    5. Mental Health Practitioner will facilitate or co-facilitate group skills training in an agency setting.

    6. Mental Health Practitioner will arrange for consistent and appropriate therapeutic skill building activities for children and adolescents and their families that meet requirements for medical necessity for rehabilitative interventions to enhance the resulting treatment plan.

    7. Mental Health Practitioner will work with a client's MHP to develop Individual Treatment Plans for clients based on the Diagnostic Assessment.

    8. Mental Health Practitioner will complete Progress Notes, ITP reviews and Discharge Summaries within required time frames.

    9. Mental Health Practitioner will collaborate with other programs to facilitate activities for the purpose of strengthening rehabilitative skills.

    10. Mental Health Practitioner will identify resources and advocate for client to receive services from other agencies when appropriate.

    11. Mental Health Practitioner will complete CTSS Treatment Supervision plan and comply with plan requirements for supervision based on individual qualification status and certification requirements and update plan annually and/or as qualifications change.

    12. Mental Health Practitioner will strive to meet program's productivity (billing) goal as appropriate to role and responsibilities. Develop and facilitate client support and skills building sessions.

    13. Mental Health Practitioner will maintain client electronic health records in a timely manner.

    REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.

    2. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.

    3. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

    4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    REQUIRED COMMUNICATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

    1. Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to read, write, speak, and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.

    2. Must be able to perform basic operations on a computer within the Windows operating system.

    3. This position requires problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    1. May be exposed to communicable diseases when working in a health care environment.

    3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
