    The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Emory School of Medicine, and Grady Health System announces an opening for the Chief of the Behavioral Health Service at Grady Health System.

    Grady Health System's Behavioral Health Service is the largest mental health provider in Atlanta. It is a multi-disciplinary team of Grady staff and Emory and Morehouse Schools of Medicine faculty psychiatrists, psychologists, and advanced practice providers who provide clinical care and oversee training of medical school students, psychiatry residents, psychologists, and other students. The services offered include emergency/crisis, inpatient, medical/psychiatric, neuromodulation, consultation, outpatient, assertive community treatment, case management, forensic psychiatric services, integrated care, and specialty clinics for various psychiatric and substance use disorders and treatment for those with HIV.

    The Chief of the Grady Behavioral Health Service will serve as the Medical Director for all behavioral health services at Grady and is a faculty member and Vice-Chair in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Emory School of Medicine. The Chief reports to the Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and his/her designees. Within the Grady Health System, The Chief reports to the Chief Medical Officer of Grady and the Executive Associate Dean for Emory at Grady, working collaboratively with the Grady and Emory leadership to ensure outstanding care is delivered to the patients seen throughout the Grady Behavioral Health Service. The position will be 60% clinical and 40% administrative.

This will be accomplished through discovery of innovative data-driven solutions that improve the patient/family experience, preparing the next generation of mental health providers for the future and guiding discoveries that improve health and function.

    The successful candidate will be an accomplished leader in the field of psychiatry who is able to present a vision for building and sustaining a top-ranked service. A qualified candidate will be a recognized board-certified psychiatrist who will have the necessary privileges to provide patient care throughout Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System. An advanced degree such as MPH, MHA, and MBA is desirable but not mandatory. The individual will provide senior leadership in all clinical, educational, and research endeavors involving Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences for the faculty located in the Behavioral Health Service at Grady. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience directing behavioral health services and embrace the core values of the department. S/he will be an accomplished operational and strategic leader with direct administrative experience to include a broad understanding of complex health systems and issues challenging the field of behavioral health and its medical education programs.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    1) Coordinate clinical service activities with those of other organizational units and report to the Medical Executive Committee (MEC), board, administration, and nursing services for issues pertaining to or affecting the clinical service.

    2) Assure that a robust physician performance improvement program (including OPPE/FPPE and Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI)) and Morbidity and Mortality is operative within the clinical service.

    3) Assist with the credentialing and medical staff appointment program and ensure timely completion of medical records and support documentation improvement efforts.

    4) Develop collaborative relationships with hospital clinical service managers and administrators (e.g. budgeting process, clinical service delivery, and administrative processes).

    5) Support Grady Health System (GHS) operational and clinical improvement initiatives.

    6) Create a culture of continual faculty recruitment, retention, and development.

    • Foster a collegial environment that supports the successful recruitment, retention, and development of outstanding faculty and staff.

    • Define and communicate expectations for faculty members, providing them with the support they need to meet them, and review their performance in individual meetings at least annually using the Career Development Conference Report.

    • Understand the University promotion and tenure process and its requirements; and mentor faculty members-or arrange mentoring-accordingly.

    • Assign clinical, administrative, educational, service, and research roles to the faculty in ways that promote the service.

    • Foster excellent communication, teamwork, and cooperation in carrying out the scholarly educational and clinical missions of the Division and the Department.

    • Provide adequate Divisional infrastructure for faculty and staff to carry out their responsibilities.
