  • Position Overview

    Reporting to the Director of Electrical Engineering, the Chief Engineer is responsible for leading fuel, DEF and brake line design and development for all of International's chassis platforms, including hardware selection, bracket design, channel design and modular part strategy.

    The successful candidate will also be responsible for working with the broader team on integration of all media (hoses, lines, harnesses and cables) on the vehicle chassis. This role provides leadership for new product development from conceptualization through component design, qualification, and delivery. The Chief Engineer will be tasked with growing the capability of the team over time.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead development of routings for multiple systems for On-Road Vehicles to meet/exceed customer expectations and ensure increased profitability and market share

    • Make decisions in the areas of design and project risk trade-offs that impact program cost or delivery without sacrifice of quality expectations

    • Lead spokesperson for department internally and externally

    • Partner with Purchasing and Manufacturing for strategic decisions and issue resolution

    • Optimize cost, quality, and on-time delivery by improving the efficiency of development activities

    • Managing the DV/PV test plan and plan for the prototype builds

    • Ensure cross-functional team of design engineers understand the boundaries

    • Lead investigation into internal or external product quality issues for high-confidence resolution. Support robust problem-solving methodology (8D, Red-X, 5Why) to define root cause, develop issue resolution path, and systemic actions to prevent reoccurrence

    • Attract, hire, develop, and retain talent

    • Schedule and execute design reviews and project gate reviews

    • Coach and mentor the team

    • Develop and present regular reports to Senior Leadership

    • Resolve issues identified in analysis, test and the field

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    • At least 10 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

    • At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities

    OR

    • Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    • At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

    • At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities

    OR

    • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    • At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

    • At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities

    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.     Desired Skills

    • Experience working with the Unigraphics NX Routing & Harness tool

    • OEM experience or Tier 1 product development experience

    • Strong background in automotive and transportation system product development

    • Aptitude for learning new systems and using adjacent industries to improve Truck and Bus development

    • Ability to understand complex topics and break them down actionable tasks

    • Well-honed critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills

    • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities judiciously

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

    • Strong communication and organizational skills

    • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience interacting with business customers and colleagues

    • Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to present ideas effectively

    • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

    • Experience working with senior global engineering teams

    • Experience leading, developing and managing multiple projects across several locations

    • Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

    • Track record of improving quality and on time delivery across the engineering organization

    • Experience successfully launching new products on time

    • Proven experience in planning, organizing, and maintaining relationships with internal customer organizations
