The Chief Engineer (CE) for the High Energy Laser portfolio will be directly responsible for technical execution of the design, development, production, fielding, and sustainment of the high energy lasers for multiple ongoing and expected contracts, both domestic and international. The CE will need to demonstrate the capability to develop and govern technical execution of product development and technology insertion roadmaps. The CE will also be responsible for establishing/maintaining an effective relationship with customer counterparts in the USG including applicable technical leads with high energy laser acquisition oversight responsibility. Strong demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills are required to help drive and maintain the High Energy Laser Product Portfolio.
Establish and manage a product vision, strategy, and goals to align with multiple Programs/Customers and facilitate conflict resolution.
Ensure technical integrity and engineering execution across the portfolio and collaborate with other functions to meet and/or exceed cost, schedule, and technical requirements.
Primary technical point of contact with senior customer counterparts, internal senior program management and engineering leadership.
Support the capture of new business and influence technical and product line roadmaps, ensuring they are reflected in program planning and execution
Plan out and lead the incremental break-in of upgrades and system improvements
Drive positive change within the production environment as a key stakeholder in Failure Review Boards, FRACAS activities and other continuous improvement efforts
Technically engage with major subcontractors and partners to ensure product deliverables
Direct a team of multi-disciplined engineers in support of laser field and sustainment issue resolution
Provide technical advisory disposition for Export / Import (EXIM) compliance.
Experience as a technical leader who can develop work plans and drive execution
Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience including prior experience in a technical leadership role and including experience across the development lifecycle.
Experience with leading and conducting laser system trade studies, laser system development and design, laser systems requirements development and management, and laser system integration and test.
Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Experience leading engineering teams
Direct experience managing resources with multi-million-dollar annual budgets
Experience in strategic development, customer interface, or contract capture in the Defense Industry.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience working on the High Energy Lasers
Excellent communication, technical writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills
Experience in leading and executing the design and development of complex system architectures
Demonstrated experience across the product lifecycle, including concept development, architecture, design, integration, verification, and production
Demonstrated experience and ability to interact with and influence Department of Defense (DoD), and/or commercial and non-traditional customer sets
Proven ability to develop effective internal and external customer relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and continued business
Direct experience with Engineering Risks and Opportunities (R&O) Management
Demonstrated experience with globally distributed engineering execution organizations (CONUS and OCONUS)
Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
Direct experience with International FMS programs and International Supplier's/Partner's engineering execution

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
