Job Summary:
Supports superior clinical experiences and optimizes provider productivity by assisting in all aspects of patient care, facilitating diagnostic testing, preparing examination rooms and providing follow-up care under the supervision of a physician and within her/his scope of practice. This position will work primarily out of our Mt. Airy location.

Essential Functions:
- Maximizes provider productivity by screening calls according to practice protocols or after consulting with provider, depending on scope of practice; reviewing patients' charts prior to encounter and ensuring exam rooms are prepared and stocked per provider's preferences, setting up appropriate instrument trays, etc.; assisting the provider(s) with examinations/procedures and, diagnostic testing; administering injections and medications to patients as ordered by provider; calling prescriptions in to pharmacies and authorizing drug refills; scheduling referral appointments and hospital admissions as indicated by provider; following up with patients; turning over exam rooms efficiently maintaining steady patient flow; etc.
- Supports the accuracy of diagnoses and efficacy of treatment plans by scheduling additional tests and procedures with outside laboratories and specialists as ordered; properly preparing specimens for testing by outside laboratories; following up on results of outside testing; conveying test results to provider; etc.
- Prepares patient for physician examination/treatment by obtaining appropriate history of presenting condition, illness or complaint; recording vital signs; observing/assessing patient within her/his scope of practice, etc.
- Reduces patient anxiety and supports patient satisfaction goals by escorting patient to exam room; putting the patient at ease; drapes patient for examination/procedure to preserve their modesty, being sensitive to cultural sensitivities, etc.; promptly and courteously returning patient telephone calls, answering patients' questions within her/his scope of practice and according to practice protocols; promptly and appropriately conveying lab results to patients, providing patient education regarding aftercare plans including medication(s) prescribed, therapies ordered and other regimens in treatment plans.
- Ensures completeness and accuracy of medical records and supports complete and accurate charge capture by entering presenting concern(s), vital signs and information obtained from H&P into patient's chart; reviewing encounter form after each patient encounter to ensure all procedures performed/treatments provided are captured/charged correctly; obtaining precertification for procedures before rendering service verifying eligibility, deductibles, co-pay, etc. and entering precertification number into the medical record for billing purposes; ensuring test/procedure results and reports from referrals are reviewed and initialed before adding to the patient's medical record; completing and charging appropriately for the completion of forms according to practice policy, etc.
- Provides and, if appropriate and allowed by law, bills for services and office visits that may not require the presence of a physician such as removing sutures; applying/changing dressings and performing, administering parenteral medication under the direction of a licensed provider including intramuscular injections and related monitoring/documentation and other medical procedures appropriate to her/his scope of practice; providing first aid in the event of emergencies; etc.
- Minimizes risk to patient, co-workers and self by using personal protective equipment, maintaining a working knowledge regarding the safe and proper use and operation of equipment, checking equipment for safety before using and otherwise observing all safety precautions when performing job duties; minimizing opportunity for infection transmission; following sterile procedure guidelines to ensure non-contamination of sterile field; adhering to bloodborne pathogen standards, demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures; reporting any unsafe or hazardous condition at once; etc.
- Protects patient confidentiality and privacy by complying with HIPAA provisions and protocols whenever creating, using or disclosing medical records, etc.
- Keeps professional, clinical, and technical skills up-to-date by maintaining certification/licensure required for her/his position at all times, participating in staff meetings and in-services, attending meetings and workshops as directed or permitted, reading appropriate journals, etc.
- Contributes to patient-centered teamwork environment by becoming cross-trained in the duties of other staff as directed; filling in for other staff as directed by her/his supervisor; obtaining and maintaining any certification required for positions in which s/he has been cross-trained.

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED; completion of an approved medical assisting program. CMA/RMA Certification Maintenance of certification/licensure as required by state and/or PENTA; current CPR certification
