    Job Summary and Qualifications

    Under the direction of the SPD Manager/Director, the Coordinator of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) provides for the delivery of efficient and effective sterile processing within the hospital. The Sterile Processing Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and development of Sterile Processing Department staff; for assisting the SPD Manager/Director, in planning, directing and monitoring of unit operations; and in the fiscal and quality management of the unit. The Central Sterile Coordinator in collaboration with the SPD Leadership, will ensure that the processing service provided is consistent with established national, state and medical center standards and that it is provided in a safe, appropriate and cost-effective manner. 

    What you will do in this role: 

    • You will serve as a role model for staff and customers. 

    • You will ensure an environment of continuous learning is maintained. 

    • You will supervise, coach, and mentor departmental staff. 

    • You will ensure orientation and annual competencies are developed, evaluated and maintained. 

    • You will oversee the assembly of surgical trays and packs for the operating room 

    • You will ensure instruments, care/sterility is provided according to standards of professional practice. 

    • You will implement and monitor critical processes to reduce unit-specific errors. 

    • You will maintain communication with the OR to ensure that proper level of service and quality. 

    • You will perform instrument tray quality checks and monitor compliance to tray lists, and proper packaging and processing. 

    What qualifications you will need: 

    • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred 

    • A Central Sterile Certification is required in South Carolina hospitals and is strongly preferred in Georgia and Florida hospitals 

    • Prior sterilization and surgical instrumentation experience is preferred 

    • 5+ years' experience as a central sterile technician 

    • 1 – 2 years' experience as lead/supervisor, excellent customers’ service, CSP equipment use and the ability to troubleshoot equipment, must be able to communicate with all levels of OR/CSP Customers. 

    • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician is required.
