    Position Summary

    We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our Cardiology department. The ideal candidate will have a passion for veterinary medicine, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role involves supporting our cardiologists and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional care to our patients.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Patient Care:

    • Assist in the preparation and management of cardiology patients.

    • Monitor and record vital signs during procedures and treatments.

    • Provide pre- and post-operative care and support to patients.

    • Diagnostic Support:

    • Assist with diagnostic imaging procedures, including echocardiograms and radiographs.

    • Prepare and maintain equipment and instruments for cardiology procedures.

    • Collect and process laboratory samples as needed.

    • Client Communication:

    • Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing clear instructions and updates on their pet's condition.

    • Educate clients on post-treatment care and medication administration.

    • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.

    • Schedule appointments and follow-up visits.

    • Manage inventory and order supplies for the cardiology department.

    • Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other hospital staff to ensure efficient and high-quality patient care.

    • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advancements in veterinary cardiology.

    Qualifications

    • Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; veterinary assistant certification preferred.

    • Previous experience in a veterinary clinic, preferably in a specialty or referral hospital.

    • Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.

    • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

    • Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and humanely.

    • Proficiency in using veterinary practice management software and medical equipment.

    • Personal Attributes:

    • Compassionate and empathetic towards animals and their owners.

    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of care.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

    VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $20 to $22/ hour.
