    Responsibilities

    The Gonda 10 Cancer Center Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing / compounding hazardous medications for the cancer center, managing the receipt high-cost medications from wholesalers and vendors; overseeing all aspects of inventory management; distributing oral medication for patients enrolled on clinical trials; mitigating product shortages and recalls; participating in quality improvement projects, and performing data analysis. This individual will develop and maintain strong relationships with pharmacy staff, medical oncology staff, Mayo Clinic staff, and patients. This position will be based in Rochester.

    A Pharmacy Tech (Level 1 - 5) assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

    Qualifications

    Note: These qualifications apply to the Pharmacy Tech level 1, which is the minimum qualification that must be met for all levels.

    • High School diploma or equivalent.

    • Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.

    • Able to learn technical tasks. Able to follow written and verbal directions. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.

    • Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.

    • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.

    • Prior experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred.

    • No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.

    License or Certification:

    • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.

    • National Pharmacy Technician certification within 12 months of hire.

    Compensation Detail

    This pay range spans from the minimum for a Tech I to the maximum for a Tech 5. Placement within a level and within the range is dependent on experience and qualifications.
