    SUMMARY

    Bus driver transports passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to assigned schedule by performing the following duties.

    EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Bus driver is to:
    • Direct the loading and unloading of the vehicle.
    • Keep trip records or logs showing time of departure, sequence of stops, time of return, trip, mileage, gasoline/diesel and oil consumption, and similar items.
    • Report any accidents, damage or traffic violations to the person in charge of transportation.
    • Inspect braking system, check lighting systems, make operational inspection of vehicle for: loose or missing parts, damaged or worn tires, proper air pressure in tires, solution in radiator, proper oil level, battery condition and similar items.
    • Check for presence and usability of assigned equipment such as tools, tire equipment, chains, first aid box, fire extinguisher and similar equipment.
    • Be aware of and enforce district policy pertaining to transportation of students.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Bus driver must have the knowledge to:

    Language Abilities

    Bus driver must have the abilities to:
    • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Write simple correspondence.
    • Effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.
    Mathematical Abilities

    Bus driver must have the abilities to:
    • Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and dive by tens (10) and hundreds (100).
    • Perform these operations using units of American currency and weight measurements, volume, and distance.
    Reasoning Abilities

    Bus driver must have the abilities to:
    • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    Required

    A high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Applicants must successfully:
    • Complete a twenty (20)-hour training course required by the Nevada State Department of Motor Vehicles and the State Board of Education.
    • Secure a CDL (commercial driver license) issued by the DMV.
    • Pass State of Nevada annual bus driver examination with a score of 75% or better.
