About The Role
The Building Engineer working in a high-rise building will have a diverse range of responsibilities on a day-to-day basis. They will perform regular inspections of the building's systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire alarms, to ensure they are functioning properly. They will oversee and inspect the work performed by external contractors for tasks such as landscaping, remodeling, and cleaning. Additionally, the building engineer will be responsible for conducting repairs and maintenance tasks as needed, such as carpentry, electrical work, and painting. They will also manage the energy usage of the building to optimize efficiency and minimize operating costs. In emergency situations, the building engineer will respond quickly and coordinate additional assistance if necessary. Overall, their role involves ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the high-rise building to provide a safe and comfortable environment for its occupants.
What You'll Do
Applies advanced skills in various trade areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling
Monitors building system operations and performance
Inspects building systems (fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing) to ensure accurate functioning
Coordinates and inspects work performed by outside contractors (landscaping, snow removal, remodeling, etc.)
Performs repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance
Maintains maintenance and repair records
Estimates time and materials needed for repairs and orders vital supplies
Manages energy usage to minimize operating costs
Maintains building lighting system
Performs welding, carpentry, furniture assembly, and locksmith tasks as needed
Responds quickly to emergencies and calls for assistance
Provides informal technical mentorship and training to coworkers
May coordinate work and assign tasks
What You'll Need
High school diploma or GED and at least four years of related experience or trade school training
Preferred Universal CFC certification, additional certifications in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration systems, etc.
Strong communication skills, ability to comprehend instructions, write reports, and present information optimally
Basic financial knowledge, ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages
Reasoning abilities to solve practical problems and analyze situations with limited standardization
Proficient in using computer systems, email, and Microsoft Office Outlook
Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting/carrying heavy loads
Decisions made with understanding of procedures and company policies, errors may impact co-workers and supervisor's work
