    Description

    Bakery Assistant Manager Location

    The Bakery Assistant Manager provides back-up and support to the Bakery Manager for all aspects of the Bakery Department, including operations and profitability and actively supports Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by providing exemplary customer service and by effectively training, motivating, and leading their team.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Provide supervision, consistent training and development, and leadership for Bakery employees to ensure excellent customer service and team productivity. Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, feedback, and praise. May be asked to assist with new hire's and annual employee performance reviews.

    Financial Responsibilities
    • Assist and support the Bakery Manager with managing inventory, pricing, scheduling, and shrink.
    • Assist with the completion of weekly CTO (contribution to overhead) to monitor department budget versus actual sales, purchases, and labor.
    • Monitor sales to efficiently order, merchandise, and rotate products. Ensure freshness, wholesomeness, and consistency of product. Take and document accurate product inventory, physical inventory done quarterly.
    • Monitor costs and maintain accurate pricing and labeling. Support the department by working with vendors and suppliers on deals, displays, product quality, and credits.
    • Ensure accurate billing for special orders.
    • Manage shrink through effective employee training, product rotation, and accurate receiving.
    Other Responsibilities
    • Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company property, resources, and image.
    • Assist with Bakery tasks when needed including, but not limited to: packaging, baking, frying donuts, cake decorating, and unloading and storing deliveries.
    • Ensure department sanitation and cleanliness of equipment and fixtures.
    • Other duties as requested.
    Department Development

    Develop employees' skills, knowledge, and abilities to reach department and store objectives. Stay current with industry trends and evolving customer tastes and needs by introducing and implementing new foods, recipes, and ideas. When needed, attend company planning and strategy meetings, plan and participate in special sales and events.

    Requirements

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
    • Prior bakery, baking, or culinary experience preferred.
    • Two (2) years management experience required.
    • Must have a MN Certified Food Protection Manager license, may be obtained after hire. Certifications must remain current.
    • Must have proven organizational and multitasking skills. Must be able to think outside the box and have excellent problem solving skills.
    • Must be able to prioritize, efficiently perform duties, and delegate tasks.
    • Windows operating system computer skills including Google Business Suite and Internet experience required.
    • Must have strong math skills.
    • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
    Communication Requirements
    • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.
    • Must understand and display proficiency in resolving conflict through leadership and discussion.
    • Understand how and when to motivate using praise and proper correction.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be able to communicate a consistent message through proper use of strong business and moral ethics that support Mackenthun's vision and commitment to our employees and customers.
    Physical Demands

    Constant standing/walking/talking/hearing and seeing for long periods of time. Frequent bending at waist, reaching arm's length/above shoulders/below waist, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. and pulling/pushing up to 2,500 lbs. with a use of a pallet jack. This position requires close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception and color vision.

    Equipment Used

    Baler, bread slicer, candy cooker, compactor, fryer, fryer filter, icing table, knives, ladders, lift truck, mixer, ovens, pallet jack, sinks, doughnut sheeter, walk-in coolers and freezers, wrapper/sealer, dishwasher.

    Work Environment

    Must be able to work with and around machine noise, hot and cold temperatures, on terrazzo flooring in a smoke-free facility in a multifaceted and fast-paced environment. Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
