Azure Database Administrator

Description

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience deploying and managing Azure SQL Database as a Service (DBaaS) solutions, along with a deep understanding of Azure cloud services and database management practices. This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, implement, and manage Azure SQL Database environments.

• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery for Azure SQL Databases.

• Perform database performance tuning and optimization.

• Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues.

• Automate database management tasks using PowerShell or other scripting languages.

• Implement and maintain database security, user access management processes

• Conduct regular database backups and maintenance tasks.

• Develop and maintain database documentation.

• Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database solutions.

REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Azure SQL Database:

o In-depth knowledge of Azure SQL Database architecture and components.

o Experience with Azure SQL Database deployment, scaling, and management.

o Proficiency in configuring and managing Azure SQL Database high availability and disaster recovery options (e.g., Geo-Replication, Auto-Failover Groups).

1. Database Performance Tuning:

o Strong skills in performance tuning and optimization techniques for Azure SQL Database.

o Knowledge of query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance troubleshooting.

1. Security and Compliance:

o Understanding of Azure SQL Database security features (e.g., TDE, Always Encrypted, Dynamic Data Masking).

o Experience implementing database security best practices and compliance measures.

1. Scripting and Automation:

o Proficiency in PowerShell and other scripting languages for database automation.

o Experience with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates and Azure CLI.

1. Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

o Experience with Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, and other monitoring tools.

o Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve database issues.

1. Backup and Recovery:

o Knowledge of Azure SQL Database backup and restore options.

o Experience implementing backup strategies and conducting regular restores to ensure data integrity.

1. Database Design and Development:

o Understanding of database design principles and data modeling.

o Experience with SQL development, including writing and optimizing T-SQL queries.

1. Azure Ecosystem:

o Familiarity with other Azure services and their integration with Azure SQL Database (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions).

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Familiarity with other database platforms (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) in an Azure environment.

• Knowledge of cloud cost management and optimization strategies.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Experience:

o Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration.

o At least 3 years of experience specifically with Azure SQL Database as a Service.

o Proven track record of deploying, configuring, and managing Azure SQL Databases in production environments.

1. Education:

o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

o Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate preferred but not required.
