Job Summary and Qualifications
Mission Sports Medicine is seeking an Athletic trainer to join our team of driven healthcare providers who provides evidence-based healthcare, creating a positive impact for each individual who may walk through our doors. The Mission Sports Medicine Athletic trainer will be an active member of the department and promote exceptional healthcare that is built on the foundation of inclusion, compassion and respect for our patients and each other. This athletic Trainer will possess contemporary expertise and clinical competence with a focus on patient centered care. This position is at University of North Carolina at Asheville an NCAA Division 1 program. The primary sports assignment will be with the Women’s Volleyball team with other duties as assigned. This position is one of 5 athletic trainers’ in the program who will work in concert to bring best practice care for the student athletes through collaboration with selected area physicians across Western North Carolina.
Essential Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Demonstrates a proactive approach to patient-centered care through purposeful and skilled interaction, promoting evidence-based and best practice procedures, techniques, and recommendations to produce a change in condition/function consistent with diagnosis and prognosis.
Consistently delivers excellent, timely, and cost-effective service to patients within scope of practice established by law, professional code of ethics, and the department’s Certified Athletic Training protocols.
Identifies potential psychosocial pathologies (e.g., disordered eating) frequently associated with patients and refer for appropriate diagnosis and management.
Determines the individual’s readiness to participate using evidenced based and best practice recommendations and in accordance with department, national and state regulations.
Builds effective relationships with team providers, interdisciplinary clinicians, coaches, leadership, the organization’s administration, and other pertinent parties.
Collaborates with and ensures accurate, effective, and timely communication to PCP, Team Physician, coaches, administration, and others involved in the patient’s care to ensure continuity of care.
Assists with facilitating consults, follow ups, referrals, and clinical diagnostic appointments as needed.
Maintains up-to-date and comprehensive patient records in accordance with department policy and other regulatory agencies
Promotes safe and appropriate practice, competition, and treatment facilities, following department and state guidelines. Maintains up-to-date Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and reviews with pertinent parties to ensure seamless delivery of emergent care.
Maintains up-to-date EAP, to include site specific EAPs, and ensures compliance with educating, coaches, and administration on safe facilities, protocols, and their roles in the EAP.
Completes other duties, as assigned or requested, to support departmental operation, and to ensure quality clinical outcomes and patient expectations are met or exceeded.
What qualifications you will need:
Required Education:Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Education: Master’s degree
Required License:
Required Experience: Direct athletic training care in a collegiate or secondary school setting. Demonstrated effective communication, reliability, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Working knowledge Office programs, data entry, and internet functions.
Preferred Experience: Clinical experiences working with NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA or professional athletics. High risk, collision sports experience. Working knowledge of injury tracking surveillance system, and neurocognitive testing.
