    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Associate Scientist supports programs focused on long term international suncare product development, future technologies and innovations, and translates opportunities into products for implementation.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Support the development of new and revised skin care formulations (cosmetic and OTC) to meet marketing plans and regulatory requirements as well as fueling innovation for new opportunities.

    • Conduct scientific studies to develop and reformulate products from bench to launch by initiating efficacy and safety testing and working with the pilot scale-up and regulated stability teams.

    • Provide technical assistance to ensure successful technical transfer of Edgewell developed formulas to regional manufacturers by performing activities needed to confirm alternate raw material sources and evaluate lab and pilot batches.

    • Assist in the implementation of formulas developed with third party manufacturers to ensure they meet Edgewell requirements for safety, stability and efficacy.

    • Present research study and investigation (ideation, technical research, prototype, development etc.) in a timely manner to R&D leadership that is coherent and accurately reflects the results.

    • Review competitive products and assist in benchmarking initiatives.

    • Work with Consumer Insights group to prepare samples as needed for advancing product development.

    • Work with cross-functional team members on execution of assigned projects & timely communication within and across functions to ensure visibility to program status.

    • Manage key external relationships such as vendors/consultants on assigned projects and budgets associated with them.

    • Contribute continuous improvement ideas in the area of laboratory best practices.

    • Represent company at technical or industry functions.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science or engineering degree

    • 0-2 years skin care / emulsion experience

    DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Basic understanding of product/process/consumer-based research as a scientific discipline.

    • Basic understanding of how to coordinate projects including design, execution, analysis and reporting.

    • Basic understanding in applying methodologies including quantitative and qualitative testing, statistics, and design of experiments to answer objectives.

    • Ability to function as a collaborating team member in a business environment to support area of discipline on cross-functional teams.

    • A solution orientated professional with the ability to execute multiple tasks required to meet project objectives

    • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written; ability to engage and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization

    • Functional understanding of technical tools that support testing (automated data collection systems, statistical software, Microsoft Office, etc.).

    • Ability to take initiative, think and work independently, problem-solve, work in teams and multitask; a solution orientated professional.

    • Maintains and expands "knowledge base" required within the area of work.

    • Ability to travel. The position may require travel to contract manufacturing sites, vendors, industry meetings, and external seminars.

    The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $84,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
