Associate Medical Director
Summary
- To provide high quality comprehensive clinical services that include: psychiatric evaluation, medication monitoring, supportive psychotherapy, and medication education for patients in the partial hospital and intensive outpatient program also providing treatment team leadership to other disciplines involved in the treatment milieu. Additionally, the Outpatient Staff Psychiatrist participates in the psychiatric on-call system. In collaboration with the Medical Director for the Outpatient Site, provides clinical and administrative oversight of Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses within the outpatient center.
Responsibilities
- Administrative Responsibilities: Provides clinical supervision and oversight of Staff Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses within the outpatient center through face-to-face meetings and periodic chart audits to review diagnosis, treatment planning, medication regimens, and clinical documentation. Ensures that the Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses meet Department of Psychiatry requirements including attendance to Department of Psychiatry meetings and continuing education. Collaborates with the Medical Director for Outpatient Site and Site Director on the recruitment of locum tenens and permanent Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses through review of curriculum vitas and initial interviews. Refers candidates who pass this first level screening process to the Department of Psychiatry Chairman and Senior Vice President of Behavioral Health for second level interviews. Collaborates with Medical Director for Outpatient Site and Site Director to orient new Outpatient Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses to PMPHBH policies and procedures with a particular emphasis on evaluation, medication management, and documentation standards. Collaborates with the Medical Director for Outpatient Site and Site Director in the completion of annual performance evaluations for Outpatient Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses. Collaborates with the Medical Director for Outpatient Site, Director of Training and Research and Site Director in leading the outpatient site's Performance Improvement Team. Collaborates with the Medical Director for Outpatient Site and Site Director in the overall management of the outpatient center including policy and procedure development, program development, and regulatory compliance. Clinical Responsibilities: Provides psychiatric evaluation, medication monitoring, supportive psychotherapy and psychoeducation for patients in the Penn Medicine Princeton House Behavioral Health (PMPHBH) outpatient centers including partial hospital, intensive outpatient and traditional levels of care. Provides clinical direction for the treatment team of PMPHBH through treatment team meetings, supervision of other clinicians, participation in treatment plan documentation, leadership in management of behavioral crises and patient care problems. Collaborates with clinical and administrative staff in managed care reviews as needed to assure certification and to appeal denials of coverage, within required timeframes. Maintains documentation of patient care in a timely manner and in compliance with PMPHBH and Medical Staff policies with requirements of Federal and State agencies and with Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies. Provides continuity of care by participating in the on-call coverage system for PMPHBH and by assuming the care of PMPHBH patients during vacations or absences of other PMPHBH psychiatrists. Responds to correspondence and telephone calls as reasonably required to meet the clinical needs of patients and the operational needs of PMPHBH.
Credentials
Education: Medical degree from an accredited medical school and all of the education needed to have achieved such a degree.
Completion of a Fellowship (when applicable to subspecialty).
Experience
Related Work Experience Minimum of two (2) years working as a psychiatrist.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Active New Jersey State Medical License Board certification in General Psychiatry (when applicable, subspecialty certification) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or eligibility for certification as required by the Medical Staff By-Laws.
