  • The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg

    School of Public Health (BSPH) invites applications for the newly created teaching professor

    Track (not tenure eligible), at the level of assistant teaching professor. HPM is seeking a faculty member to fill a full-time educator/leadership position in the leadership and management curriculum portfolio (doctorate and master's programs). The successful candidate will join a robust and thriving department with over full-time 90 faculty.

    This position will support the academic mission of the BSPH and the HPM department in leadership and management. The successful candidate will be capable of supporting a reasonable teaching load (~4, 8-week courses per academic year) and academic and thesis advising. The faculty will participate in other academic pursuits in support of the Master of Health Administration program, the online Master of Applied Science programs, and the Health Leadership and Management concentration of the Master of Public Health and the HPM tracks of the School's Doctor of Public Health program. The successful candidate will be capable of drawing on their expertise in the theory of leadership and management and helping individuals develop hands-on leadership. In addition to teaching, this position is also expect ed to contribute to schol a rship in teaching/education, defined as the discovery, integration , or application of new knowledge to promote learning.

    The ideal candidate will have demonstrated accomplishments in both the practice of, and teaching of management and leadership in health or U.S. health care delivery sectors. The candidate should have at least 3-5 years of experience in healthcare administration and/or consulting. Applicants with experience building, expanding, and leading education programs are also encouraged to apply.

    The specific courses that the faculty will teach will be based on their background and expertise and needs of the department. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: management and leadership applied to health policy, U.S. health care delivery sector performance management and improvement, strategy, organizational behavior, organizational development, population health management, health equity, and leading in dynamic environments. The candidate must be committed to teaching that emphasizes not only pedagogy but also andragogy approaches for adult learners. Courses may be taught in person or online; thus, a successful candidate should be open to teaching in various modalities. Candidates should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent level o f education or relevant experience.
