Assistant Professor of Vascular and Interventional Radiology

The Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a fellowship-trained board-eligible or board-certified Interventional radiologist. The IR Division has seven state-of-the-art interventional suites, including a CT scanner on rails that moves between two of the IR suites, and 14 prep/recovery bays. The Division performs a broad range of peripheral vascular interventions including: angioplasty, thrombolysis, atherectomy, stenting, and endoleak therapies. The division also performs complex venous recanalizations, filter removal, vein ablations and sclerotherapy at a freestanding outpatient center, dialysis access revision and creation, venous access, and pulmonary embolism therapies (as part of the UVA PERT team). Hepatic interventions including TIPS, -RTO, biliary work and interventional oncologic work that spans arterial embolotherapy (TARE and TACE) and ablations. Prostatic and uterine artery embolizations and other gender-focused interventions, including focused ultrasound and pelvic venous disease therapies, are routine procedures in the division. Other non-vascular work includes urologic procedures, enteric access, biopsy and drainages, lymphatic embolizations, and osseous procedures. Division members also have opportunities to interpret peripheral CTA, MRA and duplex vascular exams. There is ongoing growth of pediatric interventions, including an expanding vascular malformation practice, driven by the ongoing expansion of the UVA Children's Hospital.

The IR Division routinely admits its own patients, provides inpatient and outpatient consults and operates a dedicated IR clinic five days a week. Three nurse practitioners and four physician assistants are members of the IR team. The Division has 10 ACGME-accredited integrated residency positions (two per year), and three independent residency positions per year.

The IR division has two dedicated clinical research coordinators and the IR faculty are involved with multiple industry, federally-sponsored and individual-investigator clinical investigations. The department has robust basic/translational research infrastructure, including fluoroscopy/angiography, MRI, CT, PET, and SPECT, small and large animal vivarium and dedicated lab space.

The UVA Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging has nine divisions, ~60 full-time clinical faculty, 14 research faculty, 47 residents and 23 fellows/instructors working in a Level 1 Trauma Center with busy transplant and cardiovascular services and strong representation in all medical and surgical specialties. Qualified candidates must have a MD or equivalent degree, be eligible for Virginia State medical licensure, be fellowship trained in Interventional Radiology, be eligible for ABR certification and have a commitment to quality patient care, teaching and scholarly endeavors. This is an Assistant Professor position. As UVA is an academic institution, teaching, scholarly and service activities are also expected.
