    Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder seeks a historical musicologist for a tenure-track position (assistant professor). Appointment date: August 14, 2025.

A PhD in music (completed no later than August 2025) with a focus on historical musicology is required. The area of specialty is open; the successful candidate will add breadth and depth to the current faculty's research profile and be able to work across disciplinary lines.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

    Who We Are

Students pursuing the PhD in musicology take coursework in both historical musicology and ethnomusicology, eventually selecting one of these areas for specialization. With nine faculty lines and an average graduate cohort of fifteen students, the PhD program is characterized by close faculty-student interactions. Recent graduates have landed full-time teaching positions and post-doctoral fellowships. In addition to offering graduate seminars, the musicology faculty broadly serves over 500 students in the College of Music pursuing bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in performance, composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, and music theory, as well as thousands of non-music majors from across the campus. We also offer undergraduate degrees in musicology.

The College of Music strives to be a community whose excellence is premised on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We seek candidates who share this dedication. The warm and collegial climate of the College of Music as a whole reflects the genuine respect among faculty and staff and the unified goal of providing a nurturing and encouraging environment for the students.

CU Boulder is located in one of the most picturesque and desirable geographic locations in the country, within easy driving distance of a major metropolitan area and the Rocky Mountains.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
