The Department of English at Medgar Evers College invites applicants with experience in college or university teaching and demonstrated scholarly expertise in the field of transnational African Diaspora Literature to apply for the position of Assistant Professor.
The Department of English offers AA and BA degree programs in English, as well as AA and BA degree programs in African Diaspora Literature. The Department collaborates closely with the College's Center for Black Literature.
The successful candidate will be expected to be qualified to teach and develop curriculum in one or more geographical areas of global African Diaspora Literature, to be actively engaged in research, and to produce a significant body of scholarship. In addition to courses in the area of expertise, teaching assignments will include college composition and introductory literature. Additional responsibilities include contributing significantly to curriculum development, student mentoring, and department, college, and university committees.
Candidates must have a commitment to the educational mission of Medgar Evers College. Additional years of full- or part-time teaching in higher education and demonstrated success in teaching and working with students from diverse backgrounds will be an advantage.
QUALIFICATIONS
Earned PhD, or equivalent, in African Diaspora Literature, English or Postcolonial Literature with a specific focus on the literature of the African Diaspora, or closely related field; at least two years of successful college or university teaching experience. Demonstrated research agenda in the field of African Diaspora Literature.
Evidence of presentations and publications in at least one, preferably more, geographical areas of transnational African Diaspora Literature, and a robust research agenda in the field will be an advantage. Demonstrated experience of mentoring students, developing curriculum, incorporating technology in teaching, and/or teaching the kinds of general education courses offered through the Department is also preferred.
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with education and experience
$75,465-$82,928
